It is their responsibility to ensure the security of the database because the computer systems are hooked up to the internet. When an office switches to a new computer system, the database administrator configures the integration of the old system to the new system.

Computer Security Specialists take charge of educating users on information security. Information Technology consultants along this area monitor the system for cyber attacks. They work with the law by gathering evidence. This job is difficult as hackers and cyber attacks become more complicated.

Website Developers create websites using an internet language. With special software they create the look that boosts corporate branding yet ensures that users and customers can easily navigate the website.

Website Administrators maintain the website. The websites must be accessible at all times for all users. They also monitor site traffic, study traffic patterns, and other metrics. They work closely with website developers and other computer and internet experts.

Education and Training

IT courses take four years to complete. But graduates of any college course are accepted to the profession BUT they should have the relevant skills for the position. A business administration graduate with proficiency certifications and has completed side courses on IT have better chances to get an IT job too. A Management Information System or MIS may be required but relevant courses and competency certificates from accredited programs are adequate.

For top paying jobs in this career, graduates have to have experience on the job for a required minimum number of years. Entry level jobs are in computer support. If you have a college diploma and want to venture into IT, an associate diploma on relevant courses is mandatory. For top paying jobs in IT career, one must have an MBA diploma.

Work Environment and Compensation

IT workers and consultants are provided a good working environment. The job may not always be an eight hour work day. Most of the times, IT professionals have to work 50 hours a week or even on weekdays when necessary.

Companies gave a median annual wage of $70,000 for IT management and computer design. Wired telecommunication carriers gave an average $66,950 annually. Schools and universities a bit lower but the annual earnings do not go below $57,000.
