The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles Position: Director of Public Relations Department: Communications Summary Reporting to the V.P. of Marketing, develops and implements strategic public relations plans that ultimately enhance the awareness and understanding of The Jewish Federation among our donors, as well as the Jewish and broader communities. Additionally, writes internal and external communications, articles, stories, and other marketing content that promotes the work of the Federation among multiple target audiences. Principal Duties Develops and implements year-long public relations plan that complements other marketing initiatives in achievement of overall Federation communications and organizational objectives; builds and maintains relationships with editors, journalists and publishers of various media outlets, including print, broadcast and online entities; secures coverage of the Federation by writing press releases and media alerts, pitching stories and following up with established contacts; develops, educates and enforces a Federation media relations policy; provides advice, counsel and knowledge to senior staff and lay leadership regarding crisis management, publicity, media relations and image-oriented issues; works with senior staff on confidential and sensitive matters including negotiations with the union; monitors and reports on all Federation media coverage; contributes content to Federation website, social media or other online and printed publications; coordinates Federation press conferences and other media events; develops and assembles media kits; stays current with local, national and international events relating to the Federation, its donors and partners; writes internal and external communications, articles, stories, and other marketing content that promotes the work of the Federation among multiple target audiences. Additional Duties Other duties may be assigned as needed, including assisting with the Campaign, at the discretion of the V.P. of Marketing. Education & Experience Required For This Position Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related discipline preferred; minimum 5 years of public relations agency or in-house experience; strong media relations contacts in Los Angeles inclusive of print, broadcast and social media; excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and follow-up skills; knowledge of Judaism and the Jewish community; well-versed with appropriate computer software and office systems; self-starter who is motivated, assertive, reliable.
