Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:\rThe African American Mpowerment Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Mpowerment intervention for MSM.  The individual will be responsible for organizing all aspects of the Project, including recruiting and training volunteers as well as organizing and supervising the group’s activities.  The individual will facilitate the empowerment of the young men who join the Project, and will guide the decisions and activities of the participants in order to achieve the program’s goals and objectives. The African American Mpowerment Coordinator will also conduct client-centered HIV test counseling services to individuals voluntarily seeking HIV testing services both onsite and offsite.  The individual holding this position is responsible for overseeing all daily functions of the Mpowerment intervention.\r\r\r\r ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:\rEssential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, planning, organizing, implementing and facilitating group and outreach activities, traveling, driving or having reliable transportation, utilizing a computer for typing and data inputting, online outreach, and conducting research; attending meetings; and presenting to small and large groups.\r\rThis position is 35 hours per week and is benefits eligible.\r\r\r \rMAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: \r\r Coordinate Mpowerment activities and ensure that activities such as informal outreach, formal outreach, core group activities and publicity are carried out as described in the Mpowerment manual.\r Conduct 24 Core Group meetings with the Mpowerment Core Group.\r Conduct a formal community assessment and review annually.\r Conduct 10 formal outreach events in order to reach 2,000 MSM who frequent established MSM areas such as bars, Pride events, and University/College Gay Alliances.\r Conduct 36 Informal Outreach events.\r Collaborate with other departments to develop materials that attract attention to the Project and that are appealing to the target audience. \r Conduct evidence based HIV prevention intervention in accordance with grant and funder guidelines. \r Conduct two media campaigns.\r Train and motivate participants to conduct informal outreach with their peers/friends.\r Plan and conduct ongoing evaluation of how the Project is meeting established goals and fidelity.\r Provide client centered HIV test counseling services (CTR).  Testing includes conducting HIV antibody test, providing pre-test and post-test counseling, offering appropriate referrals to clients, and conducting follow-up contact with clients as needed. \r Represent the community at local and state HIV prevention planning and community groups.\r Build and maintain a positive and professional relationship with funders and other community organizations.\r Collect, analyze, and report data on program activities, including ensuring data is entered timely and accurately into the necessary data system. \r Review and recommend potential resources that are culturally sensitive to the targeted community.\r Provide input and support to the prevention and education department.\r Stay informed about current HIV/AIDS trends, developments, as well as state-of-the-art prevention efforts and strategies.\r\r\r Contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating unconditional positive regard to all Equitas Health employees, interns, etc. with an understanding, awareness, and respect for diversity.\r Continuously grow and develop Cultural Competency, exhibiting an understanding, awareness, and respect for diversity.\r Demonstrate unconditional positive regard to clients and conduct all aspects of job responsibilities with a focus on exceptional customer service.\r\r\r Perform other duties as assigned.\r

Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Qualifications:\r\r Associates degree preferred or equivalent experience. \r Basic understanding of the most-to-date information on how HIV is transmitted and prevented.\r Knowledge about the latest research finding on HIV prevention efforts for gay/bisexual/MSM.\r Ability to document and assess client’s linguistic needs and identify resources needed to enhance communication.\r Must possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal and organizational abilities. \r Ability to function effectively as a member of a team, and a willingness to participate in activities and assignments that will benefit other members of the team or will contribute to the accomplishment of team objectives. \r Ensure participant confidentiality.\r Possess familiarity with the local and national epidemiological distribution of HIV disease.\r Demonstrate group facilitation skills.\r Experience with teaching or giving presentations and program evaluation preferred. \r Strong written and verbal communication skills a must.\r Knowledge and experience with the diversity of the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community.  \r Must have sensitivity to, interest in and competence in cultural differences, HIV/AIDS, minority health, sexual practices, and a demonstrated competence in working with gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community.\r Must have or must acquire within 3 months of employment an HIV Prevention Counselor Training Certificate, training in HIV Testing technology, and certification in Mpowerment.\r Experience with motivational interviewing preferred.  \r Training in other evidenced based interventions may be required.\r Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and other computer applications required.  \r Reliable transportation, driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.\r\r\rOTHER INFORMATION:\rBackground and reference checks will be conducted.  Hours will vary, including working evenings and weekends based on social outreach activities being conducted outside of regular working hours.
