In this role, you will help lead strategic communication development for the Executive Office (EO). The position will articulate a strategic direction and develop communication plans to inform and influence internal and external audiences, integrating as needed various segment communication strategies into strategic messaging that supports the Caterpillar strategy.  The position is responsible for understanding what is in the best strategic communication interests of Caterpillar and the EO and will provide recommendations for prioritizing and organizing the communication activities of EO members.  The position is a trusted advisor to the EO and meets with the EO on a frequent (often daily) basis to set priorities and review and prepare for upcoming commitments. Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:Lead strategic communication development for the EO on initiatives to support areas of the business. Responsible for developing and communicating corporate strategy messaging related to the corporate vision, strategic goals, operating principles and imperatives such as the Operating & Execution Model.Draft EO strategic messages and ensure these are cascaded through corporate messages from global process owners and various business units. Articulate linkages among corporate wide initiatives and convey unified, strategic EO messages for internal and external audiences, including employees, dealers, customers, suppliers, investors, the public and other stakeholders. Promote and protect the corporate image through strategic communication development for the EO to represent the Caterpillar enterprise externally, communicating about the corporate strategy, financials, global policy issues, legal matters and commitment to customers and shareholders.Work with the EO to articulate the strategic direction for the enterprise, integrating the various Caterpillar segment, business unit or service center initiatives into one cohesive strategy that presents a unified message and clear direction for the enterprise to execute. Work with Vice Presidents and other managers throughout the enterprise to understand and integrate their strategic messages with EO communications strategy and messages to ensure consistency and clarity with external and internal audiences. Incumbent creates messages for both internal and external distribution. Typical internal outlets include: EO letters and videos, features for Cat @work,, Video @work and specific business unit or service center communications vehicles. External outlets may include business and trade press, and corporate social media web sites. In addition, incumbent positions Caterpillar’s EO as a thought leader by preparing for speaking engagements, media interviews, position papers and media coverage.Typical internal customers include various global contacts throughout Caterpillar and its subsidiaries. The position's internal customer is the EO but to be effective the position also will work closely with Vice Presidents, global HR managers, communications managers, worldwide communicators, and key business units and industry group leaders, as needed. Position’s primary external customers include investors, Dealers, customers, suppliers, policy makers, stakeholders and the general public. The position also will develop effective communications when required to special audiences, such as crisis communication teams; individual Caterpillar stakeholders or groups of stakeholders, including employees; and global government officials or agencies.  The position must maintain a high level of awareness regarding internal and external affairs that impact Caterpillar globally. This requires the position to stay informed on a wide array of complex issues and develop a strong network of internal and external contacts with whom they maintain close, positive working relationships. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify issues that may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within Caterpillar guidelines, from existing solutions or creates new solutions. Decisions made by the incumbent are diverse with high-risk issues that are commonly confidential. Challenges include exceeding expectations in delivering results, considering alternate courses of actions and making timely decisions.  The position has high visibility and frequent interaction with the EO, Vice Presidents and senior leadership and requires close collaboration with Legal Services, Financial Services, Brand Identity, Media Relations, Government and Corporate Affairs and Enterprise process owners of major initiatives. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. To maintain high levels of quality and effectiveness, this role will benchmark with other companies or organizations on top executive level communications development, execution and measurement. Employee may also be responsible for performing other job duties occasionally as assigned.Moderate travel required (15% - 20% of working time).','!*!Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's degree
