The School of Teacher Education provides a collaborative, engaging work environment, with a commitment to education in Wyoming public schools. The individual hired into this position acts as a facilitator among the School of Teacher Education in the College of Education at UW and Albany County School District #1.
The CoE strategic plan goal selected as most important by School of Teacher Education faculty “The College of Education will expand clinical experiences in both quantity and quality (within and beyond the academic term) as an essential element of educator candidate preparation.” This position helps support our movement forward on this goal, by providing increased levels of support to students in the critical applied phases of their undergraduate degree programs. Specifically, this position is responsible for the following, relative to students in practicum and student teaching: Convene meetings of district and college partners, including administration and others to ensure broad communication. Make classroom visits to complement UW faculty visits, for both practicum students and student teachers. These classroom visits might include anything from simple check-in visits to formal observations, upon request. Please note that Partner District Facilitator roles for classroom visits should not be confused with UW Faculty roles for classroom visits. Act as a “point of contact” and a “first responder” for mentor teachers and student teachers. Arrange for regular meetings/seminars/labs with residency students to support residency student development. Topics for meetings and seminars may include technology in the classroom, literacy, assessment, mathematics, classroom management, special education processes/procedures, preparation for the job search, and other topics as requested by district or college faculty or by student teachers. Prepare periodic updates that will be shared across the district and the CoEd regarding partnership activities and accomplishments. Assist CoEd administrators in making school placements for practicum students and student teachers using the processes delineated by the district and CoEd.
