Reporting to the Associate Head of External Relations and working as a member of the senior administrative team, the director will craft and adhere to a formal communication plan and will oversee all relevant strategies. The director will work with others to strategically present the school, its students, faculty, staff and mission to our internal community, potential students and the community at large through integrated promotion and publications. Provide vision and context during administrative strategic discussions. The director will work closely with the Director of Enrollment Management and communications team to shape content and messaging for Liggett\u2019s internal and external constituencies and potential families. Primary objectives include raising Liggett\u2019s visibility, increasing applicant yield, supporting an ambitious fundraising campaign, clarifying messaging to target audiences, and assuming leadership of a school brand process. The director will oversee and actively contribute to all communication mediums, including print publications, e-newsletters, web and social media streams (including video), promotional material and select events. In addition, the director will coordinate all advertising and public relations and serve as the school's spokesperson when so designated by the Head of School. Responsibilities and Duties: Develop and oversee implementation of marketing, communications, advertising, and public relations plans. Develop a communications plan and create internal processes and guidelines necessary to ensure a consistently high standard of performance across the institution.\u00a0 Steward the new University Liggett School branding through a revitalized style guide and support employees in their adherence to those guidelines.\u00a0 Promote a culture that values compelling content, engaging design, innovation, effective use of technology, and exceptional quality.\u00a0 Partner with colleagues across departments to ensure clarity and consistency in all communications.\u00a0 Develop and implement innovative strategies in order to demonstrate the value of a University Liggett School education and drive University Liggett School toward increased engagement among all internal and external constituencies.\u00a0 Collaborate with stakeholders \u2014 including the Head of School and colleagues in Admissions, Advancement, and the three school divisions \u2014 in defining and supporting communications goals and objectives.\u00a0 In collaboration with Advancement, design strategies and implement concrete plans to engage alumni, parents, and friends and to inspire increased, consistent giving.\u00a0 Manage the development, design, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to the alumni magazine, e-newsletters, fundraising appeals, Admissions materials, capital campaign materials, annual report, website, and social media platforms.\u00a0 Review, revise, and update the school\u2019s crisis communication plan and communication tools.\u00a0 Oversee and manage the departmental budget.\u00a0 Ensure on-brand results from staff, freelance writers and designers, print vendors, and other contractors.\u00a0 Bring new ideas and strategies into the work of the senior administrative team and departments.\u00a0 Serve as the school\u2019s primary spokesperson with the media. Develop and maintain communications between the school and the media to promote newsworthy stories and activities, report significant student and faculty accomplishments and identify the school as a leader in education in southeastern Michigan.\u00a0 Cover school events and issues for the website with stories and\/or video and photographs. Attend special events, arrange for writers or photographers to attend special events to take photographs and populate the website.\u00a0 Oversee the maintenance of the photography collection, including digital files. Maintain an archival file of school-related public relations, news stories and advertisements. Ideal Experience: Bachelor\u2019s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related field required.\u00a0 Minimum 5-10 years of accomplished management-level experience with demonstrated expertise in strategic brand thinking and effective message management across multiple communication channels. Exceptional writing, editing, and speaking skills with meticulous attention to detail, creativity, quality, and timeliness.\u00a0 Demonstrated fluency with digital media and social platforms for marketing and communication purposes including web analytics and content development for social media and online advertising.\u00a0 Demonstrated success in bringing regular, positive media and\/or constituency attention to an organization. Demonstrated success in supervising and managing staff.\u00a0 Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor, and adhere to schedules and budgets.\u00a0 A strong track record of managing multiple concurrent initiatives with competing deadlines.\u00a0 A self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives in a collaborative manner.\u00a0 Someone with high energy and leadership who can serve as a unifying force and will position communications discussions at both strategic and tactical levels.\u00a0 Ability to work occasional nights and weekends when necessary.
