Profile

RLI is hiring a Director, Marketing & Communications to join our team in the Peoria, IL home office. This position will develop and execute RLI’s internal and external communication strategies and manage integrated communications, media, public relations, and marketing activities that promote, enhance, and protect the organization's brand awareness and reputation. As an ambassador for the organization, this role collaborates with internal stakeholders, builds relationships with external constituents, and helps advance the organization's position with strategic partners in support of company goals.

Collaborate with the leadership team, product teams, and other internal stakeholders to identify internal and external communications needs, concerns, and opportunities; provide solutions and execute appropriate strategies to support them.

Oversee development of external marketing communications.

Prioritize and serve as lead on media, PR and marketing opportunities that help promote and/or impact the organization.

Lead internal employee communications strategy and initiatives.

As appropriate, write and edit creative copy for print and digital media. Draft talking points, emails, speeches, presentations, scripts and other supporting material on behalf of organization and leadership team.

Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications function including reviewing all content distributed by the Marketing & Communications team to ensure accuracy and appropriate messaging.

Manage proper use of brand voice and ensure consistency of language, tone and content throughout all communications and marketing materials

Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization on ad hoc communications projects from concept through launch.

Measure effectiveness of assigned programs to determine ROI and/or impact.

Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

Mentor and develop marketing communications team members.

Required Skills

Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic communications, media relations, and marketing programs to advance the organization's mission and goals.

Extensive experience successfully planning, writing, editing and producing (both internally and externally focused) a variety of print and online communications media, including newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature, employee and executive communications.

Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, presentation and listening skills, including the ability to tactfully critique work.

Able to operate as an effective strategic and tactical thinker.

Customer-service oriented and able to effectively work with senior management.

Able to conceptualize, plan and execute projects from start to finish, both autonomously and as part of a team.

Able to exercise a high degree of judgment and diplomacy with an impeccable commitment to confidentiality.

Able to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.

Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.

Required Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field and 8 or more years of experience in a similar field or position.
