**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking a Senior Public Relations Specialist to join our team on task with the Defense Innovation Unit Experimental (DIUx) to build and maintain a positive image for the company. The ideal candidate may write or select material for release to various communications media. To succeed in this role the desired candidate will originate and prepare written material, such as scripts, stories, advertisements, and other material. The position for this location is Washington, DC.
Responsibilities for the Senior Public Relations Specialist include but are not limited to:
Assist in providing recommendations and guidance to the Defense Innovation Unit-Experimental (DIUx) on strategic communications including external and internal outreach activities to support DIUx responsibilities and objectives.
Supports DIUx leadership to manage the DIUx media in coordination with the Office of the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs.
Supports meetings, as required in support of Defense Innovation Board.
Supports participation in relevant DOD forums, as determined by the Deputy Secretary of Defense. Assists in the developing and refining of messaging for a variety of internal and external audiences.
Assist in developing and executing, government lead approved, strategic communications and media outreach activities in support of the DIUx.
Assist in providing input to the OSD/AT&L/R&E strategic communications plan. Ensure the DIUx strategic communication plan is in line with and supports the OSD/AT&L/R&E strategic communications plan.
Assist in leveraging existing relationships, identify and create opportunities to deliver messaging to key audiences, including:
Stakeholders: Silicon Valley companies, non-traditional performers (including small businesses and entrepreneurs), academia, industry, technology groups.
Organizations/Events: Participation in national and local technology-focused panels hosted by universities, media, venture capital groups (i.e., identify local Valley 'garage' meetings, speaking opportunities, pop-up and Maker events).
Media: Host round-tables and one-on-one opportunities for leadership to share DIUx messaging and build relationships with new media outlets.
Assist in identifying key events for attendance by DIUx and DOD senior leaders to provide messaging and promote DIUx activities and objectives.
Assist in coordinating with OSD/PAO, AT&L front office and R&E front office to review strategic external outreach opportunities.
Assist in serving as liaison between DIUx and OSD/PAO on managing media inquiries.
Assist in conducting research on reporters' backgrounds and past stories, provide context, and propose draft responses to media inquiries.
Assist in coordinating with DIUx staff on responses to reporter inquiries, receive necessary approvals by senior leadership, and review with OSD/PAO in timely manner to meet deadlines.
Assist in drafting, reviewing DIUx messaging, and materials for use with media interviews and external and internal outreach activities.
Assist in tracking messaging pickup and tweak ongoing messaging accordingly.
Assist in tracking DIUx related stories and disseminate to OSD staff.
Assist in tracking and coordinating responses to incoming messages.
Assist in preparing for government approval, post information to the DIUx website portal including: Events and opportunities for Silicon Valley companies to make connections with DOD.
Assist in developing links to key DOD resources (i.e., the Defense Innovation Marketplace website (****the Office of Small Business Policy, Manufacturing and Industrial Base Policy, etc.).
Assist in leveraging existing social media tools (@DoDinnovation, @DeptofDefense) to increase and develop new tools as needed to increase DIUx brand awareness with potential Silicon Valley partners.
Assist in ongoing progress updates to DIUx leadership.
Assist in leveraging contractor public affairs subject matter experts as needed (i.e, identify and coordinate with contractor staff who have Silicon Valley and/or corporate relationships).
Position Requirements
Basic Minimum Requirements for Skills, Experience, Education and Credentials for the Senior Public Relations Specialist include:
Over 10 years of experience.
MA/MS degree in Marketing, Business, or Communications.
Ability to work independently on high-visibility or mission critical aspects of a given program.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of products
Possess and demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
Experience working with senior officials and coordinating across large groups of people at multiple levels.
Experience with Department of Defense structure and organizations.
Active TS/SCI Clearance
Domestic travel required (about 20%)

The work environment for this position requires an individual to be able to:
Work sitting or standing at a desk or conference table for extended periods of time with the ability to shift positions while working: sit, stand, pace, adjust positioning in any of those without issue
Walk in the office to collaborate with co-workers, attend meetings or retrieve documents from printer
Ability to carry up to 10 pounds
