Summary: The Coordinator, Media & Communications, will play an integral role on a collaborative team responsible for sharing the life-saving work and mission of the ASPCA through engagement with media u2013 broadcast, print, online u2013 and other influencers. The Coordinator will support the entire Media & Communications team and assist in the successful implementation of the ASPCAu2019s communications function, with a strong emphasis on the execution of integrated communications plans where media outreach is a major element, as well as assistance in various projects as assigned by the supervisor. Candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills as well as a solid foundation in public relations best practices.Successful candidates will be able to work at a high level in a team environment u2013 with the ability to take direction from multiple individuals u2013 and also showcase an ability to work independently when needed, taking full ownership of projects assigned to him/her until successful completion. Responsibilities: Media Relations (70%) Assist in the development and implementation of strategic and integrated communications plans using a wide range of communications tactics to support programmatic and organizational efforts Draft, edit and disseminate communications materials such as press releases, media/photo advisories, calendar listings, public service announcements, articles for newsletters and website, and other materials as required Monitor inbound pressline inquiries - respond to and/or re-route calls and emails appropriately and in a timely manner; assess ROI and coordinate with program experts and media team members to develop a response that aligns with ASPCA messagingu00a0 Gather and monitor ASPCA media mentions and disseminate monitoring reports for internal audiences on a regular basis Manage ongoing media relations and outreach for specific program areas, including arranging and covering radio, print, online and television interviews/appearances Coordinate specific public relations tasks and/or events with other departments and manage the implementation of these projects as necessary u2013 this includes coordinating logistics and support for local media appearances for adoptable dogs and cats Develop and nurture relationships with external audiences (media, celebrities, third-party constituencies, etc.) to convey the ASPCAu2019s message Communicate regularly with program experts to keep up-to-date on programmatic developments and from these discussions, identify opportunities for external communications Represent the ASPCA at events, as required Conduct photography for media and ASPCA events and programs, as required Create/maintain media lists Continually refine and improve PR skills u2013 learning from others on the media team u2013 specifically in the following areas:Development of compelling story ideas and drafting well-researched story pitchesPro-active media outreach and pitching for assigned program areas Project Management & Administrative/Other (30%) Manage and take full ownership of projects from start to completion Schedule meetings, create agendas, take meeting notes and develop actionable next steps to keep projects moving Liaise and collaborate with colleagues who oversee other channels (i.e. internal, public/professional online properties, social, etc) to maximize relevant communication opportunities Coordinate production and distribution of material with other ASPCA departments as required Research, participate, and share with the rest of the team professional development/learning opportunities as appropriate Other duties, as required and deemed necessary by supervisor Exemplifies the ASPCAu2019s Core Values: Has Commitment and dedication to improving the lives of animals Demonstrates Ownership and feels responsible for outcomes Believes in Team u2013 that we are stronger together Seeks to Elevate others and reimagine what is possible Focuses on Impact , specifically making change for animals Education & Work Experience: BA, BS or equivalent required; Liberal Arts (English, history, etc), public relations, journalism or communications major preferred One to two years public relations agency experience strongly preferred (including internship experience) Experience in special events/celebrity engagement and consumer PR preferred Proven track record of placements in leading national or regional media (strongly preferred) Experience writing and delivering presentations is preferred Additional Information Must be available after business hours, on holidays and weekends, as required (on rotation) Strong relationships with consumer and news media is a plus Working knowledge of AP Style is preferred Interest and/or experience with social media Knowledge of media research software such as Vocus/Cision is a plus Comfort handling dogs and cats and willingness to engage in basic animal handling training Qualifications: Ability to maintain good working relationship with employees, department staff and the public, Ability to perform job in professional manor and maintain confidentiality, Ability to understand the ASPCAu2019s mission, strategy, programs, policies, and values, Ability to work independently and as part of team., Ability to work rapidly and meet deadlines under pressure, A working knowledge of Vocus and other media relations software programs and web technology such as Interact a plus, but not required, Computer and Internet/search engine savvy with entry level understanding of internal communications within growing organizations, Excellent interpersonal skills and strong team spirit, Experience interfacing with external vendors a plus, Experience with basic meeting and event planning required, Experience with web technology and social community platforms, Knowledge of and experience with social media, Must be able to travel as necessary, Must be well-organized and have the ability to prioritize various tasks, Must have knowledge of standard proofreadersu2019 marks and AP Style, Strong Written and Verbal Communication skills, Two or more years of related experience in communications: PR, media, corporate -or internal communications related roles Language: English Education and Work Experience: Bachelors (Required) Our EEO Policy: The ASPCA is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
