JOB SUMMARY

The Recreation Marketing Coordinator establishes, coordinates and directs all marketing and public relations initiatives within and for the Recreation Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Plans, develops, coordinates and implements a proactive marketing and public relations strategy for the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department.

Develops and coordinates the production of all marketing materials, including, but not limited to the 3 Department magazines, 4 Senior Center program brochures, flyers, handouts, and information sheets produced by the Department.

Create and implement a content and growth strategy across all social media outlets, including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and others.

Assist Recreation Staff in the daily updating of information on the department’s websites ( www.mtpleasantrec.com

, and www.mtpleasantrec.com/register

Communicate and collaborate with the Town’s Communication Office, Cultural Affairs & Tourism Office, and Business Development Office, to promote Recreation Department’s programs.

Reviews all media related articles to insure that articles are in the appropriate format necessary for publishing.

Submits monthly reports of the marketing/public relations efforts to the Recreation Director.

Assists in developing program/customer service surveys, analyzing feedback and recommending appropriate actions resulting from the feedback received.

Assists the Recreation Director/designee in the CAPRA accreditation process for the Department.

Photographs and videotapes department events and maintains archives of photos, videos, newspapers, and magazine articles.

Assists with special events as needed.

Prepares and submits award packages for department to various governing organizations.

Performs other related assigned duties.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of multimedia operations;

Knowledge of data processing software including Adobe Photoshop, word processing, spread sheet applications, power point and web design programs; working knowledge of audio visual equipment;

Knowledge of website principles; knowledge of marketing principles and techniques so as to effectively promote MPRD facilities, programs and initiatives;

Skill in the use of computers;

Skill in the use of customer service;

Skill in the use of coordinating various programs and projects simultaneously;

Skill in the use of PageMaker 7.0, Microsoft word and Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, Outlook, also basic understanding of HTML;

Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely orally and in writing, to include public speaking and group training.

Skill in the use of principles of teaching, accounting and budgeting; presenting compelling reasons for businesses to sponsor programs;

Ability to develop effective working relationships with department personnel, subordinates and with the public;

Skill in the use of oral and written communication; Skill in the use of public speaking;

Skill in the use of interpersonal communication and mediation;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Art, Multi-Media or Public Relations with three (3) years of related work experience;

About Mount Pleasant Recreation Department SC

TOWN PROFILE The Town of Mount Pleasant, founded in 1837, is located along the middle of South Carolina’s coast. Mount Pleasant occupies 44.01 square miles and serves a population of 82,125 residents. It is currently the fourth largest municipality in the State by population size. Mount Pleasant is connected via the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge to the most populous city in the State, the hist

orical City of Charleston. The third largest city in South Carolina, the City of North Charleston, is a few miles west and can be reached via Interstate 26 and 526. The Town has a rich historical heritage stretching back hundreds of years. The Sewel Indians were the oldest inhabitants of this area, and occupied land on the East Cooper River over 1,200 years ago. John O’ Sullivan (the namesake of Sullivan’s Island) arrived with the first English settlers and founded North Point Plantation in 1680. In Revolutionary War times, locals formed a small army of 423 men who defended Sullivan’s Island in 1776 and won the first major victory for the colonists. In 1837 the Village of Mount Pleasant was made into a town by the South Carolina State Legislator. Post-Civil War, the Town of Mount Pleasant’s population was over 75% African American. These men and women largely chose to take up farming. Scanlonville was created by Robert Scanlon as one of the biggest land cooperatives among African Americans in the United States. Scanlonville became a part of the Town in 1982. These are just a few highlights of the diverse and resilient history of the Town of Mount Pleasant. The Town is truly a place where you can live, work, and play. Major service industries in Mount Pleasant include health care, professional and business, and hospitality and leisure. Mount Pleasant offers excellent schools, historical sites, recreational opportunities, and a wide variety of housing, shopping, and dining options. For these reasons, Mount Pleasant has attracted national attention. The U.S Census Bureau named Mount Pleasant the 10th fastest- growing city in the nation in 2015. It was also named as one of the top 50 cities to live in the U.S. by the 24/7 Wall Street report in 2016. The Town currently employs more than 600 employees organized into nine departments which provide a full range of municipal services. These services include police and fire protection, municipal court, sanitation services, maintenance of buildings and infrastructure, recreational facilities and programs, construction permitting and building inspections, land use planning and code enforcement, transportation management, and general administrative and legal support. The Town operates under the Council form of government as provided in S.C. Code 5-11-10 et seq. as amended. Town Council is composed of the Mayor and eight council members elected at large. Council terms run for a period of four years with four of the council terms expiring on alternating years. All legislative and administrative powers of the municipality and the determination of all matters of policy are vested in the municipal council. The 15 Mayor and the Council enact ordinances and resolutions relative to municipal services, levy taxes, establish appropriations, issue debt and institute other fees and regulations, which aid in the maintenance of equitable treatment and quality standards within the municipality. Each member of council, including the Mayor, has one vote in each matter. To assist the Mayor and Council, the Council employs a Town Administrator to oversee and coordinate activities among the various departments of the government. The Town Administrator ensures that management functions are carried out within the policies and procedures endorsed by Council along with ensuring personnel requirements and budget constraints are upheld by department heads charged with managing the daily operations necessary to provide services to the residents and businesses of the Town.
