JOB TITLE:   Internal Communications Specialist
REPORTS TO: ​ ​Director, Learning &  Development

Home Office Partners (authors and editors for Company lntranet; primarily Managers and Directors.)
Store and Regional Managers regarding the distribution of information to field
Home Office executives

The Internal Communications Specialist, in partnership with Home Office teams, will deliver clear company communications that are well-timed; driving awareness, business performance, organizational culture and employee engagement. As a communications specialist, this role will lead communication planning sessions to fully understand the project goals and company initiatives to develop a plan to achieve desired outcomes.  This position is responsible for proactively keeping current with emerging technologies & industry trends for internal communication.

Prepare and execute a strategic communication plan for all company initiatives
Manage communication consistency and ensure strategy reflects the company objectives and goals
Measure and present results of all communication efforts
Schedule and facilitate regular meetings with HO business partners to plan and strategize flow of information to support individual business initiatives
Refine core messaging to ensure organizational consistency in all aspects of communication including development, organization and education
Write & design internal publications (i.e. HO Newsletter, Influential Leadership stories, etc.)
Maintain an editorial calendar for all company communications in partnership with Corporate communications on external messaging
Define content messaging for Field Management meetings, assisting with content build, writing and delivery channels
Build a strategic communication plan for the company’s Annual Meeting; pre-function, on-site meeting content, post meeting follow-up messaging
Develop story content for news and featured articles to engage multiple audiences, including strategy for new communication channels
Partner with Store Operations to research best practices for company intranet site to maintain awareness and engagement
Write, design and distribute company communication surveys.   Coordinate and maintain all feedback
Plan and facilitate business focus groups to gauge a pulse of the department and develop ways to engage and motivate employees
Write, edit and post communications, stories, images, web links and learning documentation to the company intranet
Complies at all times with the Standards, policies and Code of Business Conduct and Ethics set out in the Bookseller Handbook.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum of three years of journalism, corporate communications, public relations and/or related equivalent work experience, preferably in corporate retail
Able to manage projects and timelines with colleagues without direct supervisory responsibility
Strong relationship building skills
Proficiency with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint)
Experience with content management systems (i.e. Wordpress)
Exceptional verbal/written communication and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines
Enthusiastic, creative and self-motivated
