Pearson Learning Services is constantly looking to add to our AMAZING team! We are aggressively searching for an exceptional Director for PR & Corporate Communications to lead corporate communications and public relations specifically for its K-12 education solutions business and launch initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity for one to work with various internal stakeholders on a broad range of initiatives and projects!

In this highly visible and strategic position across the company, one will play a critical role leading both internal and external communications programs and will report directly to the Head of Marketing.

The Director of PR & Corporate Communications will lead public and media relations initiatives to generate press coverage to attain brand and product visibility. Being a creative thought leader, you will be charged with driving a strategic approach to media and community relations across the organization to maximize results. Additional responsibilities will also include managing external PR agency relationships and leading employee communications programs, ensuring that employees are informed and kept up to date on the latest developments.

The Director of PR & Corporate Communications will work out of the company’s Bergen County, New Jersey and New York City offices!

Here is what you will get to do:

Supervisory Responsibilities

Build and develop 1-2 direct reports

Lead day-to-day management of external PR and communications agencies

Public Relations

K-12 Campaign Strategy : Create and execute a comprehensive public relations plan that supports business objectives

Media Story Development : Identify and develop storylines that support K-12 business priorities and/or communicate the company’s technology/innovation leadership

Media Relations : Serve as primary media relations liaison with industry media and press

Social Media Monitoring & Engagement : Develop and execute a strategy for engaging with key press and influencers via social media vehicles

Community Relations Support : Partner to bolster public relations efforts related to our corporate citizenship efforts

Trade Show Support : Lead tradeshow media strategy including press briefings and targeted outreach

Press Releases : Partner to conceptualize, draft and finalize announcements and drive outreach strategy

Measurement & Reporting : Identify appropriate resources for measuring public relations activity

Corporate Communications

Campaign Strategy : Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and implement internal marketing campaigns and projects for various company initiatives

Content Development : Create, write, and edit content for the company’s communication channels.

Manage internal editorial calendar and overall publication schedule

Cross Functional Communications Leader : Serve as the internal communications lead across functions/programs including Human Capital Management, Legal & Compliance, Business Technology, etc. Help to oversee the firm’s internal digital communication mediums, vehicles and tools

Measurement & Reporting : Identify appropriate resources for measuring employee engagement activity


Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or English

8-10 years’ successful experience in Corporate Communications (internal and external), Public Relations, and Media Relations

K-12 Education industry experience is required!

Exceptional experience in driving communications programs, events, and platforms

Excellent communication, messaging and storytelling skills

Strong writer with proofreading and editing proficiency; writing samples required!

Demonstrated experience working with and providing communication guidance to senior executives and mid-level managers

Proven track record developing new ideas and campaigns across a broad spectrum of today’s media and marketing channels

Strong project management skills; highly organized with a strong attention to detail

Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills; ability to build and develop relationships across levels

Exceptional talent with managing a high volume of work in compacted timelines with multiple priorities simultaneously, and operating in a demanding work environment

Ability to travel 10 - 20% of time

Reliable and punctual is highly critical to successfully perform in this role!
