Advertised Summary Job Description:
This position will manage the Summer High School Academic Program for Engineers (SHAPE), with a direct reporting line to the Director of Outreach Programs and Special Projects. Situated with in the Office of the Dean, outreach programs especially serve students underrepresented in STEM fields and encompass: K-12 STEM education; undergraduate, graduate, postdoc and faculty engagement; general public events; and research grant activities.
The incumbent is responsible for managing the educational, logistical, administrative, and communications activities for this strategic program in a dynamic portfolio of outreach programs and projects. The Program Manager exercises independent judgment and maintains relationships within and external to the university. The position is responsible for preparation of instructional materials, as well as program marketing, admissions, and evaluation and will also be responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising seasonal staff. In concert with the other Outreach Programs team members, the Program Manager is responsible for overall program administration, budget management, purchasing, and invoicing pertaining to the SHAPE program.
General Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus 3-5 years of teaching or program management required.
Budgeting and grants experience.
Excellent oral and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills are necessary. Management skills, mature judgment, and attention to detail required. Must have experience working with multiple projects simultaneously and be able to work independently. Must have program management experience as well as a student-focused orientation and the ability to exercise diplomacy, discretion, and collaboration. Must be capable of working independently, as well as collaboratively, and take a proactive approach and anticipate team's needs. Excellent computer skills with MS Word, MS Excel, and other databases required. Must have extensive knowledge of social media platforms. Experience with Adobe design suite preferred. Position requires occasional evening and weekend assignments. Must be detail oriented.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Advanced degree in a STEM and / or education field preferred. Related experience in a K-12 educational setting preferred.
Experience working with a wide range of constituencies, especially with underrepresented minority students. Experience implementing, organizing, and marketing educational programs. Ability to manage multiple projects and to multitask. Ability to work extended hours to oversee community building activities and events.
Experience in a high paced environment preferred. Ability to exercise independent judgement. Must be positive, forward-thinking, and mission-driven and a have a passion for excellence and a sense of humor.
