Description

Public Communications Specialist, Senior (PAX-21-1386-F)

Bowhead seeks an experienced Public Communications Specialist, Senior with a focus in internal and external communications to join the NAVAIR Command Communications Department at NAS Patuxent River, MD.

Position will be 80% telework and 20% in office.

The Communications Specialist supports internal and external mass communication requirements and provides content for communications messaging.

Essential functions will include:

• Create and edit articles, news releases, fact sheets, talking points, digital news pieces, message maps and other written content to stimulate internal and external interest in command accomplishments and enhance understanding of the command, its workforce, and mission

• Conduct research to respond to organization and media queries and pass information to federal public affairs officer and others

• Work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to effectively promote and field digital skills and transformation

• Help leadership communicate effectively with the organization’s nationwide workforce and general public

• Help maintain the organization’s corporate image and identity

• Draft speeches, talking points and presentations for the organization’s leadership and subject matter experts

• Evaluate marketing programs to determine whether they are compatible with organization’s public relations efforts

Requirements

• BS or BA degree in communication, journalism, or a related writing-intensive field

• A minimum of 6 years of experience as a communications professional

• Experience in creating and executing internal or external focused mass communication plans required

• Must have a solid command of writing articles, captions and other products in Associated Press style

• Flexible, persistent self-starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment

• Familiarity with change management and risk communications highly desired

• Prior experience supporting DoD or government agency preferred

• Ability to work with multimedia and digital development professionals; multimedia experience welcomed

• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office suite skills - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Office 365 a plus.

• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts

• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment, with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
