Communications and Public Involvement Speciali
for our Norwalk and New Haven, CT
offices. The position will support and assist the Walk Bridge Program team in public involvement, outreach and communications. The position may also support other **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. communications and public involvement efforts in CT and/or the Northeast as needed. The position is part of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.’s National Communications & Public Involvement Practice. This is an exciting opportunity to join our national team of talented communications and public outreach/public information professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a liaison between the Program and the community
Coordinate and participate in public meetings and community events with various neighborhood groups or other Walk Bridge stakeholders as assigned. Availability to work some nights and weekends, as needed
Respond to public inquiries and resolve issues under Walk Bridge Program communications protocols
Implement strategic social media outreach plans including the research, writing and vetting of various posts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc.)
Develop content and create informational materials — fliers, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations, photos, graphics, etc.
Research and write AP style for website and various newsletters as assigned
Research and possibly respond to a variety of media requests in a timely manner
Research and write media releases as assigned for the Walk Bridge Program
Research, compile and distribute daily news clippings pertaining to the Walk Bridge Program
Respond to customer phone calls and assist with the Program’s toll-free customer service line
Assist CTDOT Executive leadership as requested
Implement effective public outreach strategies for the Walk Bridge Program, and other high profile transportation projects as needed
Take initiative and ownership of public involvement tasks to develop effective strategies that solicit feedback and input from the public
Direct the work of support services such as graphic design, website development, video, and photography
Work closely with the project team and client to ensure communications alignment with agency priorities
Attend external project, agency, and community meetings to provide public involvement updates and identify public involvement issues
Identify opportunities for community and professional involvement for the project team
Build strong relationships with clients and assist with business development activities
Interact in a clear and concise manner with a variety of diverse audiences

Bachelor's Degree in Communications/Public Relations, Journalism or a related field
Minimum of 1- 3 years of communications experience in a technical industry
Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite Programs, including Acrobat Pro, InDesign and Photoshop
Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher
Outstanding oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Superior organizational and creative skills
High attention to detail
Deadline driven with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Proven experience using social media for outreach campaigns
Ability to understand and translate complex, technical information into easy-to-understand content for public consumption
Ability to work effectively with teams and demonstrate initiative to lead tasks
Ability to work well with the public and interact effectively with all organizational levels, including senior management
Communications/public involvement experience with infrastructure or transportation
Work experience in public information and communication for transportation, design or construction projects
