Lead Camp Counselor
This is an exciting opportunity to work in the education field with children and work hands-on with animals. The Lead Camp Counselor will be responsible for supervising Camp Counselors, day-to-day parent communication and managing the daily activities within camp.
The job entails but is not limited to:
Actively supervising Camp Counselors
Ensuring each camper is accounted for
Maintaining camper attendance and enrollment paperwork
Collaborating with Camp Counselors to plan activities and prep supplies each day
Implementing humane education lessons, animal interactions, animal related chores, crafts, educational games
Communicating with parents/guardians about each camper’s day
Ensure the health and safety of the youth in program
Ensure the camper sign-in and out process is run smoothly and safely
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Experience as an educator in a formal or informal education setting
Experience educating diverse and underserved communities is highly desired
Experience working with children 4-14
Experience supervising child care staff
Knowledge of companion animals and their health and welfare issues is helpful
Animal care/handling experience desired
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in education or in college, working on this degree in English, psychology, communications, or related field preferred
Studies in Early Education and related majors are preferred
Strong interpersonal skills with a dynamic personality to engage and excite the community about programs and services
Exceptional ease and diplomacy when communicating with the public, staff and volunteers while offering a high level of customer service
Ability to manage conflict and be tactful and fair-minded. Ability to handle stressful and changing situations. Versatile, flexible, and willing to work within constantly changing priorities
Must maintain positive and productive relations at all times with employees, colleagues, vendors, service providers, volunteers, donors, participants, and others
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
Cheerful, outgoing, and enthusiastic attitude
Comfortable learning and using online information systems
Strong multi-tasking skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Frequent interactions with people of all ages, including children
Comfortable handling cats, dogs, and other animals
Must possess a valid driver's license and pass a background check

(Summer Camp) *
Week of June 18
* Training is required before camp begins in order to learn about our facility and the animals, create lesson plans, and prepare materials.
