UW Medicine Strategic Marketing & Communications is recruiting for a full-time senior communications manager to develop and execute marketing communications strategies to educate clinicians about care transformation across UW Medicine, and to engage them in the work. UW Medicine received a grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) to design a collaborative, peer-based learning environment to engage clinicians in activities that will substantially change how they view and practice medicine, and how the system delivers care. This grant-supported effort focuses on several key areas with the ultimate goal of improving patient care and using healthcare dollars more wisely. The senior communications manager will support these efforts by working with leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications plan targeted at clinicians at all levels of the enterprise. This position will have dual reporting responsibilities to the UW Medicine Office of the Chief Medical Officer and to the UW Medicine Strategic Marketing & Communications department, with direct reporting to the UW Medicine Director of Internal Communications and associate Director, Office of the Associate Chief Medical Officer. The position also will work closely with the Director and Medical Director of Healthcare Equity, the Chief Health System Officer, as well as many other clinical and administrative leaders. The manager will be embedded in both the CMO and Strategic Marketing & Communications environments and will collaborate with a team of professionals engaged in marketing, creative, digital, media relations and other communications skill sets to provide support. The manager will be expected to develop a deep understanding of the general healthcare landscape, as well as the care transformation goals and strategies specific to the UW Medicine healthcare system. In addition, the specialist will need to become knowledgeable about each of the individual initiatives, programs and measures that contribute to care transformation as a whole. The position requires the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and use highly-developed organization and communication skills to make independent decisions. The manager must be a strong strategic thinker and problem solver with outstanding marketing and communications skills. The successful candidate must be an excellent storyteller with the ability to identify, create and use communications strategies, tools and tactics to engage an audience that has many competing priorities. The manager should be a self-starter with a creative approach and an ability to communicate to diverse audiences. Building relationships and a collaborative approach are also key to the success of this position. The manager is expected to successfully: Develop and implement comprehensive strategic communications plans to educate physicians, clinicians and general workforce about care transformation goals, activities and results and the shift to value-based care in order to encourage broad-scale adoption of care transformation practices. Provide communications counsel and best-practices recommendations to leadership, project champions and others engaged in care transformation on appropriate strategies and tactics to help achieve strategic objectives. Develop mechanisms to track and report metrics and feedback to show engagement. Develop, maintain and enhance communications materials, channels and vehicles, including messaging hierarchies, talking points and FAQs, web properties, newsletters, presentations, videos, podcasts, toolkits and supporting collateral. Engage and manage external vendors as necessary (e.g. writers, designers, web developers). Build and maintain relationships with key leaders and staff engaged in care transformation activities. Participate in appropriate committees and workgroups and attend strategy and planning meetings associated with care transformation and other related projects, services and operations.
