Whether you are an established professional in the transportation field or just starting your career, INDOT has exciting and challenging opportunities for you.u00a0 About the Job Purpose of Position/Summary: The External Communications Program Manager for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is responsible for managing communications with external stakeholders, not including media. This position is responsible for creating strategy and agency communications initiatives, overseeing implementation of those initiatives and plans, and identifying enhancements where appropriate to achieve agency goals to improve external perceptions and satisfaction, in support of the agencyu2019s strategy, culture and key initiatives. A Day in the Life Develop, implement and manage communications strategies and systems that support external stakeholdersu2019 understanding of INDOT initiatives and enhance INDOTu2019s image with external stakeholders Partner with functional leadership in developing key messages and activities Manage INDOT external facing online/print publications/communications forums (videos, website, mobile app, social media, etc.); monitor public facing communications tools, including the agency public website, to maintain a pulse on external communication needs Identify, implement and manage solutions to issues preventing improvement in external customer satisfaction Work collaboratively with the Communications Program Manager, various divisions, and all communications teams within INDOT to deliver external strategies Work with management and staff to research and develop information for distribution to public stakeholders Create, produce and manage multiple types of communications including writing, editing and proofreading of external facing materials Work with INDOTu2019s legislative liaison and executive leadership in support of INDOT communications to state and local officials Create and deliver presentations to both large and small public groups Develop and manage public events/publication schedule Partner with management in the identification of short- and long- term external communications goals and metrics Manage small budget, keeping within targeted expenditures Stay current on agency operational, administrative, and technical functions Perform other related duties as required What Weu2019re Looking For Bacheloru2019s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Management, Journalism, English, or related field; minimum five years experience in public external communications. Masters degree preferred. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills and teambuilding, able to build relationships and establish credibility to deliver results Demonstrated experience in project management, project delivery and deadline management Strong organizational skills, meticulous, ability to multi-task and juggle multiple deadlines Extensive knowledge of communications, marketing, journalism, online applications or public relations Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills: correct English grammar, AP Style, punctuation, and spelling Ability to work with broad range of employee levels u2013 executive to front-line employees u2013 to create and deliver solutions to satisfy external customer expectationsu00a0 Demonstrated ability to create presentations and deliver to a large or small audience in a comfortable and effective manner Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint and Word; experience in Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign software is desirable Knowledge of web programming including Web CMS, HTML, and RedDot Demonstrated experience in writing web content, brochure copy, newsletters, various branding communications Ability to communicate information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner; produce written information, which may include technical material that is appropriate for the intended audienceu00a0 Benefits of Working for INDOT The Indiana Department of Transportation offers a comprehensive benefit package which includes: Four (4) medical plan options (including RX coverage) and vision/dental coverages Wellness program (offers eligibility into a discounted medical plan) Health savings account (includes bi-weekly state contribution) Deferred compensation account (similar to 401k plan) with employer match Two (2) fully-funded pension plan options Group life insurance Employee assistance program that allows for covered behavioral health visits Paid vacation, personal and sick time off Competitive leave policies covering a variety of employee needs 12 company paid holidays, 14 on election years Qualified employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program New Parent Leave
