About the Manager of Social Media, media and Communications position

The Manager of Social Media, Media and Communications assumes the responsibility for executing Maryville’s integrative social media and communications activities.    The qualified individual will be a creative thinker, have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and be comfortable working in both print and digital communication programs designed to create and maintain a favorable public image for Maryville and will be responsible for creating content/communication for the website, email, newsletters, and annual report.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop strategic and creative social media and communications project management;

Manage agency’s social media pages on a regular basis;

Manage website content and update on a regular basis;

Design and create visual content;

Identify main client groups and audience, determine the most effective way to grow Maryville’s audience and engage and communicate with them;  

Target influencers in the nonprofit and media world;

Develop and maintain a communication plan;

Develop a robust follow-back campaign to drive growth;

Development of short, but quality social media content;

Create longer, high level print and video content;

Work closely with media consultant;

Serve as publications writer/editor/copywriter with responsibilities for printed and digital newsletters, direct mail, annual report, and other communications as assigned;

Work collaboratively with other staff and contractors;

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university majoring in New Media, Communication, Journalism, Marketing or Business;

Experience in digital media/communications with a non-profit, corporate or public relations environment;

Excellent social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge;

Extensive knowledge of web design, web development, CRO and SEO;

Experience in consulting, writing, editing (photo/video), presentation and communication skills;

Knowledge of web design, web development, CRO and SEO;

Knowledge of online marketing and understanding of major marketing channels;

Experience writing news releases, story pitches and media advisories;

Experience working with reporters in the Chicago media market;

Ability to identify and develop news stories at Maryville that would be of interest to media outlets and promote Maryville’s strategic goals;

Ability to handle crisis communications or breaking news situations;

Must possess effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate organizational, time-management, and decision-making skills;

Must be able to work independently, and demonstrate a spirit of cooperation in a team environment;

Desire to work in social service to help make a difference in the lives of the children and families that Maryville cares for.

Skills /Knowledge:

Strong writing, editing and project management skills;

Strong Social Media Communicator (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Detail oriented and willing to learn;

Competent use of AP Style Guide;

Working knowledge of Word Press website content management;

Knowledge of pre-press design and production processes;

Ability to create flyers, invitations in Publisher

Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, a plus;

Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Net Community a plus;

Photography skills a plus.

Physical Demands:

Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk, sometimes for extended periods.

Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.

Environment and Scheduling:

Work is performed in designated administrative office settings.
