Clark University’s office of Undergraduate Admissions seeks to fill the position of Associate Director of Admissions Marketing/Communications. Reporting to the Vice President of Admissions and Financial Aid , the successful candidate will be responsible for management of all programs and activities associated with the development and delivery of the University’s undergraduate recruitment message.
The Associate Director is responsible for developing and implementing communications plans associated with recruitment of international and domestic students. In partnership with the University’s office of Marketing & Communications, the Associate Director’s scope of activity includes creation and implementation of strategies relating to publications, mailings, web-based communications, social networking, and public relations outreach. The Associate Director will be responsible for the operational implementation of these various communications working in conjunction with appropriate operations staff.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Included in a range of responsibilities, the Associate Director will provide ongoing research and assessment of various marketing and communication strategies as they relate to key admissions indicators including inquiries, visits, applications, and enrollments.
• Oversee the activities associated with the University’s alumni admissions volunteer program and for providing strategic direction for the activities assigned to alumni admissions volunteers, with the assistance of the staff assigned.
• As member of the senior admissions staff and, as such, is responsible for participation in strategic planning efforts and for implementation of departmental priorities. This leadership role requires direct staff supervision and collaborative oversight of the communications activities assigned to the entire Admissions counseling staff.
• As a member of the admissions counseling staff, the Associate Director is expected to engage in a range of on- and off-campus recruitment activities, to manage a travel and application-reading territory (domestic and/or international), to serve on a scheduled basis as Counselor of the Day, and to analyze and review applications to the University’s undergraduate program.
Marketing & Communications Coordination
In conjunction with the Clark University Marketing & Communications department plan, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and strategic plan designed to engage prospective undergraduate students and their families.
o Develop a comprehensive communications plan that details all contacts with prospective students and their families over a multi-year timeline. Maintain communications plan and update and change as necessary.
o Develop a recruitment communications plan specifically focused on achievement of international recruitment goals.
o Assist the Marketing & Communications staff in the development, writing, editing, design and production of departmental publications and marketing campaigns.
• Provide direct supervision professional Admissions staff (at the Counselor or Assistant Director level) assigned to support the marketing and communications effort
• Oversee tactics for effectively using the web and social networking sites to maximize Clark’s exposure to prospective students.
• Conceptualize, coordinate and direct an annual student Search campaign
• Assume budgetary oversight responsibility for all elements of the department’s marketing and communications initiatives
• Serve as departmental liaison to the University Marketing & Communications Department staff.
• Serve as the departmental liaison to the Public Relations Office and handle routine press and PR inquiries addressed to the Admissions Office
Research and Assessment of Marketing and Communications Strategies
• Conduct research, collect and maintain data tracking various admissions marketing strategies and outcomes. This should include both quantitative and qualitative data.
• Use data to recommend and adjust marketing and communications strategies as necessary.
Oversight of Alumni & Parent Admissions Volunteer Programming
• Provide direct supervision professional Admissions staff (at the Counselor or Assistant Director level) assigned to support the Alumni Ambassador Program
• Oversee tactics for most effectively engage the services of alumni and parents in the admissions effort.
• Engage with appropriate liaison staff in the Alumni Engagement Office to ensure effective coordination of alumni activity.
Off-Campus Recruitment Travel & Outreach activities
• Play a leadership role in the development of new targeted geomarkets by coordinating efforts that include alumni, students, faculty, and Admissions/Financial Aid staff
• Manage and visit geomarkets (domestic and/or international) assigned to the Associate Director
Application Review
• Provide “second read” support for applications whose final decisions remain uncertain following the initial review to determine if they warrant review by the entire Counseling Staff or the Admissions Committee
• Read, evaluate, rate and make recommendations to the Dean on applicants in accordance with designated territorial assignments
• Respond to inquiries by applicants from the assigned geographic territories
• Make judgments on the admissibility of student applicants on the basis of institutional policy and independent analysis of applicant potential for success.
Counselor of the Day Duty
• Serve as host and resource to all visiting students and families who visit Clark University on the dates of assigned Counselor of the Day duty coverage
• Conduct group information sessions
• Provide phone coverage on scheduled coverage days
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Attendance at on-campus visit programs for prospective and admitted students
• Evening and weekend hours as necessary to complete job responsibilities
• Other duties as assigned
• Two Admissions Counselor (or Assistant Director)
• Bachelor’s degree, required; Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Social Sciences, Marketing, Counseling or a related field, preferred.
• 3-4 years’ experience at the professional level in college admissions or related campus-based work OR an equivalent set of related experiences.
• Valid driver’s license, required.
• Strong public speaking skills; proven writing and verbal communications skills; strong project management skills, required.
• Market research skills including data analysis, focus groups, data interpretation, and survey skills.
• Basic computing skills (including word processing, spreadsheet, and familiarity with mainframe processing systems); prior experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access is essential.
• Ability to work independently and effectively within deadlines; evidence of having been a strong team player who works well on group projects, and ability to work effectively with students, parents, alumni, faculty, and other admissions clientele.
• Curiosity, creativity, and ability to manage research/creative projects independently.
• Higher education background with a focus on liberal arts education at small independent institutions, preferred.
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative research techniques, preferred
• Background reflecting an understanding of basic marketing principles, particularly those related to higher education.
• Clear understanding of student life and academic programs.
