The position functions as program support for placing students in clinical education sites and providing outreach to preceptors and health care entities. This position will assist the program in recruitment and development of clinical sites to ensure clinical educational opportunities meet program expectations as required by accreditation. Continued support, communication and strengthening of existing clinical education partnerships is also a key element of this position.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Outreach, Recruitment & Marketing

Develop recruitment strategies and provide technical assistance for best practices in clinical site recruitment for PA education

Track and report progress and outcomes of recruitment efforts.

Participate in PA education clinical site recruitment networks to keep current on new and innovative strategies.

Recruit and develop clinical sites to ensure that clinical educational opportunities exist for physician assistant (PA) students

Support and strengthen existing partnerships with current clinical affiliates

Maintain effective communication and coordination between the academic institution and the affiliated clinical education sites

Ability to travel and work a varied schedule with flexible evening and weekend hours to recruit and visit clinical sites

Prepare materials for recruitment activities including brochures, handouts, PowerPoints, web-based materials, etc

Contribute to preceptor and clinical site recruitment efforts by assisting the Dept Chair in materials and processes, ie web postings, mailings, recruitment services, etc

Work with departmental clinical outreach team and department chair to provide support for marketing of preceptors and clinical sites utilizing standards as consistent with accreditation

Create materials (electronic and print) to assist in articulating the mission, philosophy and values of the program.

Represent the Department, School and University by travelling to marketing events such as recruitment events, exhibitor fairs at area conferences and clinical sites as needed

Engage in professional advocacy for the PA profession and the UND Dept of PA Studies

Clinical Placement Coordination

Ensure preceptors and clinical sites are able to meet the expectations of the program and ascertain educational suitability for student placement as required by the accreditation agency

Develop and maintain effective clinical affiliation agreements between the institution and the clinical education sites

Provide clinical placement and administrative management of scheduling students into clinical learning sites

Maintain records of credentialing students in preparation for supervised clinical practice experiences

Ensure proper medical licensure/credentialing of preceptors for educational suitability within the Department of PA Studies

Maintain effective communication and coordination between the academic institution and the affiliated clinical education sites

Manage ongoing needs/concerns of preceptors and clinical sites in preparation for and during student learning experiences

Track status of clinical availability, clinical site criteria and placement of students

Effectively document and maintain records for students, clinical sites and preceptors

Travel to recruit and evaluate sites and to evaluate students during clinical practice experiences

Establish and maintain relationships with health care professionals, health care administrators, clinical education coordinators and related clinical placement staff.

Work with clinical team to schedule preceptor interviews/site visits

Conduct clinical site visits pre- and post- student placement complementing faculty role as necessary

Serve as Departmental resource for clinical placement related information

Provide high quality customer service to students, preceptors, facilities and communities.

Participate in health profession student activities as applicable.

Provide additional staff support for the Department of PA Studies

Provide educational teaching for students in areas of interest and expertise complementing faculty role and departmental goals

Serve on Departmental, School and University committees as appropriate

Support a positive workplace culture of the office by demonstrating professional conduct and values expected of all employees

Represent the Department, School and University in a professional manner at all times by providing excellent communication and services

Assist in record retention according to SMHS protocol and accreditation standards

Compose minutes of meetings and other duties related to meeting preparation as requested

Competencies expected of position

Knowledge of rural health care/workforce and rural community dynamics

Sincere interest in working to develop clinical education partnerships for PA education

Emphasis on candidate’s ability to demonstrate superior communication skills, with particular strength in interpersonal relationships and networking.

Ability to effectively network with and travel to outside organizations and facilities for purposes to include clinical site recruitment and development which may require a variable schedule at times

Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to and build rapport with others

Demonstrated success working collaboratively with members of a health related team and across disciplines of various healthcare entities.

Strong communication and public relations skills including the ability to express ideas clearly and credibly

Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure to meet frequently occurring deadlines

Excellent leadership skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentations and strong writing and editing skills

Demonstrated ability in problem solving, sound decision making and critical thinking skills

Ability to positively represent the Department, School and University with professional conduct and values

Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Proficiency in computers including office related software including Microsoft Office software, email and internet

Operational knowledge of digital information and communication systems

Knowledge of how to operate general office equipment and assist in maintenance when needed

Strong organizational skills and detail oriented

Reliable, dependable and valued work ethic

Customer service skills and confidentiality essential

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in health administration, public health or health care related field; degree in communication or business (marketing, management). Other degrees considered with appropriate work experience.

3 years of experience in a health related setting

Experience with scheduling, organization, and management of multiple databases

Experience in the rural healthcare/workforce arena

Experience with rural community dynamics

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

Valid driver's license

Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate level degree in business or healthcare related field as noted above

Minimum of 5 years of health care experience and 2-3 years in scheduling, organization and management.

Experience working within a community based medical or health science center.

Knowledge of the primary care role of the PA and other various healthcare providers in the healthcare system.
