As a Director working on the R&D Communications team, you will be empowered to drive strategy and execution of both internal and external global initiatives for the R&D organization, to increase awareness and understanding of our pipeline, partnerships and business performance, and a typical day will include:
The Director, R&D Communications will help shape editorial strategy and develop content related to our four Therapeutic Area Units (oncology, rare diseases, neuroscience and gastroenterology) that is distributed across a variety of channels including print, digital platforms and social media.
The Director, R&D Communications also serves as a trusted advisor to R&D senior executives and other partners within the various R&D functions and collaborates with global corporate communications, public affairs, business units and site communications to execute programming, as appropriate.
Act as a trusted advisor to R&D executives.
Contribute to the execution of FY20 R&D Communications Plan, working closely with the team and agency partners to drive performance, measure success and course correct as appropriate.
Act as company spokesperson, as appropriate.
Drive and manage various communications projects and activities for both internal and external communications as required in support of the wider communications team and its strategic plan. This may include (but is not limited to) the following activities: Develop messaging platforms for executives.
Develop reactive talking points or manage issues, as appropriate.
Interview and write articles, FAQs, press releases, presentations and develop materials in support of business initiatives, programs and events for both internal and external audiences as appropriate.
Oversee intranet, web and social media activities and contribute to R&D and corporate editorial calendar by identifying potential article topics and creating content.
Collaborate with the R&D communications team to tell the story about Takeda’s innovative science in new and creative ways.
Identify trends in media that impact Takeda’s R&D operations and Takeda’s position/response. Support development of a robust R&D Narrative, in alignment with our Corporate Narrative.
Partner with communications colleagues in R&D, and other parts of the business as appropriate, to share information and coordinate the communication of R&D’s strategy, business objectives and performance of R&D globally.
Ensure all communications comply with Takeda operating procedures and relevant industry regulations.
Implement measurement tools and analytics to determine effectiveness of communications programs and initiatives.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Bachelors required; advanced degree in communications preferred.
Minimum 12 years of communications experience in a PR agency or corporate setting.
Minimum of 6 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology, or health care industry experience required.
Minimum 5 years of experience developing external communication strategies for a global complex organization required.
Excellent interpersonal skills to include oral and written communication.
Strategic thinker. Ability to drive effective meetings and drive consensus.
Scientific storyteller. Ability to develop communications that convey complex ideas and scientific concepts in simple, concise and creative ways to engage employees and external audiences across channels (written, social media, and multimedia content).
Strong presentation skills to communicate and persuade a wide range of audiences.
Strong writing and message development skills with an ability to write and adapt to various styles, formats and cultures.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and under pressure with proficient attention to detail.
Ability to balance short- and long-term priorities.
Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously across geographies and time zones.
Experience working at an agency or consultancy, or with vendors such as public relations agencies, design firms and production companies.
Strong manager of people with experience mentoring and coaching junior staff.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
Experience in graphic design a plus
Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, etc.)
Carrying, handling and reaching for objects
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time while travelling
Travel may be required, up to 10% - 15%.
