Communications Advisor - Crisis

Under limited supervision, plans, develops, implements and evaluates effective communications including content determination, creative direction, research writing, editing and validation. May lead strategic communications projects. May provide direct support to executives.
Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops overarching crisis communications programs directly impact corporate reputation and deliver desired results. Proactively develops external communications plans for key company initiatives
Proactively develops external communication components for C-level FedEx executives
Anticipates, researches, and provides recommended responses to issues and trends that threaten the company's ability to operate
Directs and leads risk assessments across assigned OpCos and regions, working closely with executive management of the organization
Manages agency resources in a strategic manner
Leads highly-rated crisis communications training to all levels of management across the regions and OpCos
Plans and executes crisis simulations for individual divisions, OpCos and regions.
Manages high-profile issues; e.g., wide-spread service disruptions
Works under minimal supervision
Exhibits excellent writing and project management skills
Understands Corporate Communication strategic messages, goals, and programming needs
Develops and disseminates media statements, fact sheets, talking points and QA's to appropriate teams
Provides ongoing strategic consultation to divisional clients and other corporate teams
Develops and sustains relationships among key internal stakeholders and members of the media.
Routinely furnishes the media with information concerning the organization whenever the need arises; evening, weekend and holiday work can be required in case of an incident
Performs key communications functions during a crisis; able to step into leadership position, if needed
Routinely coaches/mentors other team members
Understands FedEx corporate structure and uses internal communication and operational networks to effectively achieve goals
Skills / Knowledge Considered a Plus:
Demonstrates corporate and/or institutional crisis and issues management experience
Exceptional print and/or broadcast journalism experience
Strong understanding of and proficiency in Social Media
Strong, disciplined self-motivator
Ability to easily adapt to challenging work requirements in a responsible, accountable, and positive manner
Domicile / Relocation Information:
This position will be located in Memphis, Tennessee. Relocation assistance is available.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, marketing or related field. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.
Five (5) years of directly related experience required.
Demonstrated experience in institutional or corporate communications with an emphasis on communication planning/analysis and exposure to print and non-print media strategies.
Ability to study complex data and broad business strategy and convert into practical, effective communications strategies.
Proficient analytical, problem-solving, organization, creativity, grammar and writing skills.
Strong human relations/relationship management skills.
