Overview: Transdev, the public private operating partner of the Regional Transit Authority in New Orleans, is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Assistant Manager of Communications and Media Relations. This position will work to increase the organizations visibility and brand among the public and professional constituencies, and to support its marketing and communications goals. The Assistant Manager will help develop and execute campaigns, conduct media relations, lead and manage the organizations presence at major conferences and community events, develop communications and marketing materials, and contribute to strategic planning. The Assistant Manager partners with and supports other staff in the Communications and Community Outreach division and works with designated staff in their efforts to promote the organization to new audiences. This position works under the close supervision of the Department Director.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and help execute strategic media relations plans under the supervision of the Department Director
Execute media relations outreach for special events, programs and initiatives as assigned by the Department Director
Develop, write press releases, PSA’s, white papers, media kits, fact sheets, speeches, and rider information tools.
Write pitches, backgrounders, press releases,and key messages. Write articles and serve as co-editor of the external newsletter
Help monitor and manage reporter queries, media relations calendar, media relations processes, and draft press releases
Propose ideas proactively for media pitches to stimulate media coverage.
Manage and supervise media events and community outreach initiatives defining and promoting agency narrative.
Proactively identify trade stories, business articles, as well as consumer media across division topics to better position agency and company.
Develop and maintain close media relations to improve press efforts.
Respond to media inquiries and coordinate fact-finding efforts and responses as directed by the Department Director.
Support framing and development of main message points for better positioning prior to media interviews.
Prepare speeches, talking points and varied communications materials assisting primary/selected company spokesperson.
Identify brand promoting opportunities and improve awareness of services and products.
Assist in development of plan for strategic crisis communications.
Perform as media spokesperson as supervised by Department/leadership and when assigned and authorized to perform this task.
Responsible for maintaining an active file of positive stories about agency for proactive release to media and community.
Create and continuously update all promotional materials with suggestions to be included in a formal press kit.
Regularly meet with local media with Department Director to maintain positive, professional relationships.
Utilize all media outlets to proactively place/post news-worthy items, press releases, and footage.
Plan press conferences, media and consumer events.
Co-Produce monthly access station half-hour news show dedicated to effectively communicating news about the agency.
Develop calendar, maintain schedule, and manage appearances at community outreach events targeted at reaching diverse constituents including the business community, neighborhoods, churches, and civic organizations
Responsible for maintaining an updated detailed media list.
Responsible for maintaining an updated detailed business, neighborhood, and community list.
Responsible for maintaining media clip library and performance metrics.
Other duties assigned by Department Director.
Qualifications
Education, Licensing, and Certifications:
Bachelors Degree preferred. High School Diploma or GED/equivalent required.
3-5 years of experience in the fields of Media Relations, Community Outreach and/or Communications.
Prior experience serving as an agency spokesperson with on-air experience highly preferred.
Experience:
Proven success working within tight deadlines and sensitivity to the unique requirements of public service agencies.

Skills and Knowledge Preferred:
Adobe suite:
Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint, Premier Pro
CMS experience. Preferably Kentico or similar program.

Work is performed in a normal office environment. Some work may be performed outside of office environment. This position will have on-call responsibility and serve as essential staff during crisis or weather events as directed by Department Director.
