Periscope Data’s mission is to become the de facto data analytics software solution for data teams. The problem is, right now, not everyone knows about us! As our first Director of Communications, you will assertively drive a world-class PR strategy, own and grow press relationships and increase awareness for our company and our product.
You are smart, confident and relentless in your PR approach and extremely comfortable communicating with and pitching members of the media. Your primary responsibility will be developing and maintaining relationships with key reporters in both business and trade publications, with the goal of landing press coverage via earned media and bylines. You are a true media relations expert with demonstrable press relationships, and you have the drive and persistence to creatively and strategically craft story angles, pitch them and get coverage. You will also execute strategies for targeted speaking opportunities, other key press activities and award submissions, as well as serve as our internal expert for how we present our voice and company to the media community.
WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN OUR MARKETING TEAM:
Our CMO brings a wealth of experience and has lead Marketing teams in the enterprise SaaS space including Salesforce’s Platform business. He drives results and has built go-to-market activities, including product marketing, growth marketing, creative and brand, business development and alliances from scratch. In a nutshell, he’s seen the movie before and looks to do it all over again at Periscope Data. This role will report directly to him.
Our current Senior PR Manager has agency and in-house experience shepherding companies through the evolution of their awareness strategy. He’s supported media relations, contributed content creation, customer case studies and videos, social media channels and executive presentations to elevate engagement. As we continue to scale the overall organization, you’ll eventually own an in-house agency that you will build and foster.
The most exciting part about this role is that you get to speak to an entirely new audience - data teams - that have never been marketed to before. This is a unique opportunity to build the definitive brand for chief data officers, data scientists and data analysts. We have more than 1,000 happy customers and their stories need to be heard. This includes case studies, customer videos and customer marketing.
HOW YOU’LL RAMP:
Within your first week...
Spend time with our marketing team, learn about our products, and get to know our target audience and marketing strategy.
Dive in and immediately review and familiarize yourself with recent coverage and our external brand presence.
By Day 30...
You’ll have defined an action plan for reporters and publications you feel need to hear our story.
You’ve identified and reached out to trade publications we would like to build long term relationships with.
You’ve proposed and gotten alignment on the key metrics by which to evaluate the success of all planned PR programs.
You’ll develop messaging, pitch ideas and strategic content for potential business media targets.
You’ll begin to execute the company’s 2018 internal communications plan, including programs, budgets and KPIs.
You’ve secured 3 meetings between our CEO and key publications, plus several bylines for Periscope Data in trade publications.
You’ve started giving Periscope Data’s spokespeople media training.
You’ve built and are executing on a strategy for speaking opportunities and awards for the next 6-12 months.
You continue the drumbeat of coverage and are working on strategic messaging and positioning.
You have presented and gotten alignment on a quarterly PR plan and presented it to our leadership team.
WHAT YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED… SO FAR:
You have 10 years of experience (including strong B2B), with a combination of in-house PR and agency experience, and have strong relationships with strategic publications (trade and business).
You have a strong reputation amongst members of the media, including pitching ideas and stories resulting in a measurable uptick in digital/social traffic.
You’ve successfully managed, promoted and built teams that have audacious goals.
You love pushing content out on a regular cadence and you know how to motivate employees to amplify the message internally.
You’ve launched social media strategies from beginning to end.
You are data-driven and have experience tracking the performance of PR initiatives.
Ability to play a key role in developing and presenting new business pitches – with a proven ability to sell an idea and a hunter mentality for new business.
You’ve successfully launched an end to end PR strategy in the B2B enterprise tech environment.
