Merck's Animal Health (MAH) Division works to improve the health of animals around the world through collaborative partnerships and a deep sense of responsibility towards our customers, consumers, animals, society, and planet. This position functions as a member of the Merck Animal Health Communications team, reporting directly to the North America Communications Director. As a core member of the
Communications team, this position will be primarily responsible for all communications related to the Livestock business.
This position will have responsibility for creating and implementing effective product communications across Swine, Poultry, and Cattle species to support the business goals and provide public relations advice on a range of communications and business issues.
Serving as an advisor to the Livestock team leadership, the position will work
closely with the marketing groups to develop comprehensive public relations programs. This is an individual contributor role that works closely with the marketing teams across the Livestock business.
Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Manages the planning, preparation, clearance, and dissemination of news releases and other written and electronic communications material on Livestock activities and products.
Directs media relations activities to generate positive and/or balanced coverage in print and electronic news on Livestock products, people and services to support business goals and anticipates and manages potential issues in the media.
Develops and maintains clear, consistent and compelling messaging on relevant business,product and brands for use in internal communications, press, marketing materials and
executive communications on issues.
Establishes strong connections with customer and industry association communication teams.
Creates network of expert spokespeople.
Acts quickly and decisively to anticipate and seize communications opportunities,advising senior management whether taking prudent risks is appropriate.
Collaborates with social media team to drive comprehensive outreach
Speaks on behalf of Merck Animal Health and represents the company at industry conferences and events
Drives the adoption of best practices and standard communications practices across the
Livestock business-Develops key message points for business in preparation for
BA/BS degree is required.
A minimum 5 years of experience in communications,public relations, journalism, and/or marketing communications is required; preferably in the Livestock or Agriculture Industry.
Excellent verbal and written communication, proofreading and editorial skills
Proven success working with media – print, digital and broadcast
Initiative, self-starter, strategic thinking and creative problem solving
Ability to work in a matrixed environment and build collaboration across departments
Team player with ability to succeed in a fast-paced, dead-line driven environment
Willingness to travel for industry conferences and events
Demonstrated proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Experience with animal healthcare products and services
Prior in-house corporate communications team or agency experience
Experience working in Livestock or Agriculture Industry
