This position performs a variety of professional-level staff work in support of a public relations program of a college or the District which includes developing various informational materials to promote and publicize programs, services, activities, and events providing support with the effective presentation of program information, services, and activities, and assisting with media relations.nn MONTHLY SALARY: $6,307 - $7,813*nn*Salary Information is based on a full-time, 12-month positionnnTYPICAL DUTIESn Gathers information and writes news releases, feature articles, special articles, speeches, postings, scripts, and reports, which describe and highlight college and District activities including educational opportunities, accomplishments, athletics, recreation, fine arts media, and theater arts media.n nDevelops internal newsletters, bulletins, web site postings, and related materials for employees concerning policy and organizational changes, special programs, staff achievements, awards, and news of general interest to employees.n nAssists administrators, faculty, and staff in effectively presenting and/or improving information pertinent to their programs, services, and activities to promote understanding and support for the District.n nCollects, develops, and organizes information for dissemination to District and community groups through a variety of media including radio, television, newspapers, magazines, social media networks, podcasts, email, and Web pages.n nAssists representatives of the community and news media in obtaining information and materials regarding District activities and college programs for the community.n nDesigns layouts for magazines, brochures, newsletters, posters, and other publications.n nParticipates in the design and layout of Web pages by making editorial suggestions to improve and clarify text and overall presentation.n nEdits and revises materials for publication.n nCoordinates publication activities by obtaining bids, planning and maintaining production schedules, finalizing proofs, resolving production problems, and ensuring specifications have been met.n nAssists administrators with media relations during crisis situations; facilities public safety information during an emergency or natural disasters.n nMay represent the college and District at internal and external events serving as the spokesperson on designated public relations matters.n nAttends various administrative meetings to gather information and identify publicity goals.n nMonitors news flow for effectiveness and efficiency.n nArranges news conferences, ceremonies, meetings, and itineraries for District officials and official visitors.n nPlans, coordinates, schedules, publicizes, and attends special college, District, and community public relations events.n nUpdates and maintains content on Web pages and social networks such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.n nTakes photos and/or video records special events and distributes photos and/or videos to appropriate sources.n nMay supervise student employees.n nPerforms related duties as assigned.n For a complete job description including the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities associated with the position please visit our website.nn nVACANCIES A vacancy currently exists at East Los Angeles College, 101 Avenida Cesar Chavez, Monterey Park, CA 91754. Travel to locations throughout the District is required.EXAMINATION PROCESS The examination process may consist of one or more parts which may include a training and experience evaluation, written test, performance test and/or oral interview. ACCOMMODATIONIndividuals protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) may request, orally or in writing, an accommodation in the examination process. Documentation of the need for accommodation is required solely for the purpose of establishing that the applicant has an ADA disability and that the disability necessitates a reasonable accommodation.
