POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Director, Patient Advocacy and Alliance Development position requires leading the coordination and execution of government affairs advocacy initiatives to form strong and collaborative professional relations with consumers, patients, providers and key national third-party organizations important to the company's mission and therapeutic focus. The position leads federal and state advocacy efforts in order to advance Avanir interests on the state and national levels. This position will facilitate the development, implementation of communication strategies and programs that are aligned with mutual interests of internal stakeholders. Responsible for the alignment and promotion of advocacy programs in communities related to therapeutic areas that are in common with the company's business, as well as relations with other constituents that would impact the commercial, market and policy environment. Manage engagement with key third-party organizations in support of disease education programs, health promotion, and access to innovative treatments in order to increase the Avanir brand presence. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Reports to Head of Government Affairs, in the development of strategic priorities to address key Federal or State issues consistent with company's business goals and mission.

Gain internal alignment to ensure appropriate advocacy goals, metrics as well as consistent and concise messaging is delivered.

Serve as key Avanir contact for national third-party organizations and other targeted groups focused on improving the lives of people with Neurologic conditions

Prepare regular update reports that indicate and measure progress of allied and third-party development plans and implementation timelines.

Mobilize allies for Calls to Action on key policy/access issues and communicate results of effort to internal staff and management.

Lead and generate communication to/from key third party organizations on appropriate key legislative issues, as deemed necessary.

Coordinate regular informative mailings to allies on mutual issues of interest.

Identify appropriate ally organizations to encourage placement of op-ed and letters to the editor on priority issues tied to improved Neurologic condition care and access to innovative therapies.

Market resource programs and materials on therapeutically relevant issues to appropriate ally groups.

Utilize key advocacy tools with national third party organizations.

Track and shape legislative activities in specific states as requested

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Bachelor's degree required preferably in Marketing, Communications, Political Science or related field.

Experience

Requires a minimum of 5 years related experience including a combination of pharmaceutical healthcare and/or patient advocacy work with an excellent understanding of points of influence within non-profit organizations, corporations and third party organizations.

Well versed and in-depth knowledge of professional advocacy organizations, healthcare and pharmaceutical challenges and opportunities, specifically in the Alzheimer's population.

Experience working and with public policy, elected officials and staff.

Skills

Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.

Ability to influence, negotiate, and persuade others to independently take action.

Proven ability to work on a team and projects in a faced paced and changing environment under tight deadlines.

Strong consensus building, facilitation and presentation skills to work collaboratively with as internal/external audiences.

Proven track record of coordinating and implementing grassroots programs and networks.

Project/process management skills to drive business results.

Demonstrated ability to employ strategic thinking in establishing priorities and to foster strong alliances with internal and external business strategic partners.

Lead cross functional teams in order to develop both short and long term goals.

Analytical skills required to troubleshoot the effectiveness of coalitions and other projects.

Ability to identify the appropriateness of potential allies and their relationships with key constituencies of mutual interest in order to leverage existing and prospective relationships to show tangible results.

Well versed in Microsoft Office Suite
