The Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Relations will help develop and drive the company’s corporate communications strategies that tell the Synchrony corporate story and garner mindshare among media and influencers. This is a hands-on role and will involve personal leadership and implementation of communications approaches. The role will report to the Senior Vice President of Communications and PR, and is located in the Stamford, CT office. The candidate should have significant relevant experience in Public Relations including key media contacts.   S/he will provide strong and counsel to internal stakeholders on public relations and communications implications and on opportunities to amplify the company’s messages or changes to the company’s strategy through larger business trends, issues and timely news events.This is a strategic position that will help manage the reputation of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. externally while ensuring that the company’s corporate / business priorities and messages closely align to help drive business growth. Essential Responsibilities:Drive promotion and communication outreach for **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and its businesses, strengthen brand among external audiences and support business growth.Develop proactive public relations programs, plans and editorial calendars for **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. to engage and educate key stakeholders.Shape and structure clear, compelling messages and develop storytelling campaigns, especially those in innovation and technology.Own and support reputation management and crisis communications structures, programs and protocols as needed.Drive awareness for Synchrony’s business through proactive story placement in media outlets and other influential forums.Identify key milestones and other news making opportunities and determine strategies to elevate them.Oversee executive thought leadership campaigns including placing executive profiles, bylines and high-level speaker placements.Develop strong and trusted relationships subject matter experts.Produce key messages, press releases, one pagers, presentations/keynotes, Q&As, case studies, thought leadership pieces, bylined articles, executive briefing materials, and other communications assetsAct as an effective company spokesperson with press.Perform other duties and/or special projects as assignedExperience/Qualifications:Bachelor in journalism, communications, marketing or 14 years in public relations or journalism10 years of PR experience (ideally a combination in-house and PR firm) with significant portion of time spent focused on corporate communications ideally in financial services, consumer tech or retailStrong roster of relationships with business and financial mediaUnderstanding of the financial services industry, from bank, consumer and partner perspective. Able to understand, analyze and build narratives around the major trends and developments in the industryA portfolio highlighting writing samples and media references will be required.
