Technical Writer V - GSTO

for our Jessup, MD location.

In this position you will work under minimal supervision perform complex product information assignments such as writing product information design specifications; create, develop, plan, and write multimedia content to communicate product capabilities and instruction on their correct operation, assembly, maintenance and test for an R&D engineering laboratory and will revise and review all GSTO product documentation.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of complex technical documents

Utilizes documentation tools (Word, Adobe, and XML-based content management system) to ensure documentation is up to date and correct

Study drawings, specifications, mockups and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure and production sequence and detail

Observe production, developmental and experimental activities to create documentation in support of said activates

Analyze and revise previously published materials to maintain technical accuracy and document current procedures

Understand client needs and recommend product usability improvements

Coordinate the display of graphics and the production of the document

Interact with technical team to obtain source material

May define some processes and recommend/develop improvements

Learn new technologies and continue to expand expertise

Coordinate documentation responsibilities effectively in a virtual team; understand regional consideration and form strong working relationships

Initiate discussions both within and outside the extended team, resolve issues, and escalate issues when required

Estimate, plan and manage multiple concurrent tasks or small/sub-projects

Analyzes technical requirements in area of expertise and provide input to proposed solutions

Travel to other LGS Locations or Customer Sites as necessary

Understand and adhere to all LGS Ethical and Compliance policies

Proactively ensure a safe work environment and adhere to LGS EH&S policies and procedures

Perform other duties as required


To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

Associate’s degree in English, Communications, Multimedia and Web Design, technical communication or equivalent discipline and 8-10 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience

An active Secret government security clearance

Associate’s degree in Graphic Design or related disciple preferred

Strong writing and editing skills. Includes gathering information, assembling content, formatting, proof reading, and editing document for release

Excellent graphics design and multimedia design skills

Organization skills for document management and publication planning, with ability to adhere to schedules

Ability to work with multiple stakeholders across functions and geographical regions

Knowledge of information engineering concepts

Proactive, analytical and capable of influencing and providing decision support

Expertise in technical writing tools, such as Word, Adobe, XML-based Content Management System

Hardware and Software documentation skills and knowledge of communications systems and custom government systems is desirable

Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills

Team Player

Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Visio
