POSITION SUMMARY
The Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) is a non-profit corporation that was established in 1999 and is funded by its 7,000+ member firms headquartered in 45 countries with users in 72 countries. FS-ISAC is a member-driven organization whose mission is to help assure the resilience and continuity of the global financial services infrastructure and individual firms against acts that could significantly impact the sector’s ability to provide services critical to the orderly function of the global economy. FS-ISAC shares threat and vulnerability information, conducts coordinated contingency planning exercises, manages rapid response communications for both cyber and physical events, conducts education and training programs and fosters collaborations with and among other key sectors and government agencies.
The FS-ISAC Communications team provides timely, relevant and well-crafted communications to reach a diverse, global set of stakeholders including high-level executives, chief information security officers, cybersecurity tacticians, affiliate vendors, technology partners and other financial services and cross-sector associations and government partners. From internal communications, media (to include proactive and reactive), social media and member communications, to crisis management, the need for crisp and compelling content and communications continues to grow across the organization. Collaboration, creativity and resourcefulness are highly valued.
The Communications manager will assist the head of Communications in managing a broad range of communications activities for FS-ISAC and its subsidiaries including public relations, employee communications, executive communications, social and digital media and to promote major events. The manager may also assist with other duties including representing FS-ISAC at events and engaging with public and private sector stakeholders.
The candidate must be an excellent writer and editor (including being well-versed in AP style), and have a firm grasp of current public relations practices. Having an understanding of the financial services sector and security and resiliency issues is preferred. The Communications manager will deliver high-quality content, bringing strategic and critical thinking to the position to constantly improve what and how the company communicates to its many stakeholders.
Major Responsibilities
Develop and execute short-term and annual communications strategies and plans that are aligned with FS-ISAC’s objectives, addressing members, external and internal audiences.
Position FS-ISAC consistently and innovatively to all members, internal and external stakeholders.
Manage media relations including assisting in the development of a proactive media relations strategy to enhance relationships with the press, ensuring accurate coverage; drafting and disseminating news releases, statements and other media materials; and providing training/counsel to other leaders who need to interact with the press.
Assist in the management of external public relations agencies to maximize synergies and enhance effectiveness of the communications function.
Partner with various FS-ISAC departments and teams in supporting products and offerings including, but not limited to content development and placement, thought leadership, Summit communications, development of supporting visual material (infographics, videos, GIFs, Twitter cards) and members communications to help tell our story.
Manage the newsroom content (in development) and the employee intranet (FS-ISAC Today).
Help manage social media plans and channels.
Partner with Human Resources to develop and implement an internal communications plan, including, but not limited to employee newsletters, memos and all-employee meetings.
Update messaging documents and talking points on key topics.
Other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Exceptional business writing skills with preferred knowledge of cybersecurity, the financial services sector and resiliency issues
Exceptional editing skills
Exceptional organization skills to build out and maintain a content calendar for internal, external and social media channels
Proactively seek out the right content at the right time to inform various audience groups
Collaborate with content owners to produce strong content
Work with Marketing to broaden style guide as needed to reflect new AP style rules, segments, sectors and geographies
Perform key media outreach and interactions; keep a close pulse on news
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Competency Statement(s). To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
5-7 years of experience in PR and/or marketing. Business writing, editing, content creation with knowledge of cybersecurity and the financial services sector and/or other critical sectors a plus. Non-profit or association experience a plus.
Written Communication- Effective skills; writes clearly and persuasively in all situations; ensures writing matches the communications objectives and audience attributes. AP style required.
Project Management- ability to simultaneously work on fast turnaround and urgent assignments while also managing larger longer-term projects
Proactive and creative approach – Look for new ways to communicate including use of graphics and visuals and videos beyond just written content.
Problem Solving – Thinks critically and independently to identify potential situations; effectively communicates issues to the team; identifies and offers problem solving for all related areas.
Quality Management - Is detail-oriented; consistently produces high-quality work without close supervision
Ability to interact with all levels of management, news media, members, vendors; must be able to impact and work cross-functionally.
Experience and successful track record with managing relationships with national, trade and global media. Active relationships with financial press is a plus.
Experience in managing external public relations agency personnel is a plus.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in public relations or marketing.
Technology Applications and Platforms
Has aptitude for and is well-versed in technology applications and platforms in general (i.e., Social media platforms and respective measurement tools).
