Job Purpose The College of Education at Towson University is accepting applications for a Marketing and Public Relations Manager. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Marketing and Public Relations Manager is the lead communications and marketing professional for the College of Education (COE) with an intentional focus on implementing proactive public relations activities, including: writing, marketing, social media outreach, and influencer or audience engagement to key internal and external stakeholders for the college. With tactical marketing and communication experience, the professional should be able to align college-level marketing and communications efforts with the larger Academic Affairs division strategy as well as the University’s institutional brand strategy. The professional works closely with the Office of the Provost, and with the University Marketing and Communications team, to implement college-level marketing and communications in promotion of the college and dean. The professional is empowered to communicate directly to and on behalf of the college and departments using multitude of college-level channels such as newsletters, reports, emails, and publications.

Description

Marketing & Recruitment

Work as a member of the COE Dean’s office team to develop and implement an annual marketing strategy based on the college marketing goals for awareness, development, and recruitment. Coordinate cross department recruitment and marketing strategies. With a budget housed in University Marketing and Communications, leverage advertising or media buys that promote the college’s events, programs or initiatives. Provide college event and outreach strategy and support, helping to plan, market, and execute, as well as attend events as needed. Provide event strategy – audience identification, agenda development, space selection, etc.

Communications & Writing

Draft and update an annual communications plan for COE. Write talking points and prepare briefings and presentations for the deans in support of speaking engagements and other meetings. Write communications to internal audiences and TU stakeholders, including college leadership, college faculty, students, and staff. Proactively pitch to and field inquiries from the Office of the Provost communications staff and/or University Marketing and Communications staff TU news stories or points of pride. Actively seek out new opportunities for media coverage that expands and deepens COE’s reputation. Maintain and build positive relationships with members of the press. Develop PR plans for highlighted events. Align and elevate pertinent college communications and marketing for external, prospective, and larger university-wide (all faculty, all staff, all students) audiences to the University Marketing and Communications team. Work directly with University Advancement and University Marketing and Communications teams to align messages and delivery as it pertains to TU donors, parents, and alumni or key external audiences. Write press releases and, in collaboration with University Marketing and Communications, coordinate communication with members of the press.

Creative Services

Coordinate copywriting and ad creation with the departments and centers. Utilize University Marketing and Communications’ Creative Services design templates for external and internal audiences. Work with Art Services for graphic design of college-level events, publications, or creative executions for internal/college audiences.

Social Media

Provide strategic guidance and support to Dean regarding social media, including advising on content for personal channels. Align strategy with University Marketing and Communications' best practices and the university’s social media guidelines. Develop, implement, and promote a social media strategy for COE. Provide strategic guidance and support to departments and programs regarding social media.

Web and Digital Strategy

Serve as the lead web publisher (content owner) and approver of web and digital content for the COE, supported by best practices and guidelines from the University Marketing and Communication’s Digital Strategy team.

May have to work evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in marketing/communications or related field. Two years of experience. Current knowledge in integrated communication, creating campaigns, and managing marketing and public relations in a diverse and multidisciplinary environment. Excellent communication skills. Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, team work, meeting deadlines, implementing plans. Exceptional organizational, analytical, critical thinking and time management skills, and strong attention to detail. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and balance varying volumes of work assignments and adapt to the changing needs of the office.

Preferred:

Experience implementing marketing and/or public relations campaigns for higher education. Direct work experience using social media channels, especially Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Demonstrated creative experience building social media audiences. Experience using web tools and software for analyzing and improving social and new media. Experience with graphic design software.
