General Summary:
The Manager, External Corporate Communications is responsible for developing and implementing public relations strategies with the goal of establishing and maintaining a favorable reputation for Care1st with various audiences. This individual will partner across business units and departments and work with external agencies, consultants and vendors to drive proactive and reactive communications initiatives. The Manager, reports to the AVP of Communications.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement comprehensive External Corporate Communications plans in support of Care1st strategic priorities, with the goal of establishing and maintaining a favorable corporate reputation with our audiences, including employees, providers, brokers, public officials, opinion leaders, regulators, consumers and media.
Work cross-functionally with, senior and middle management in the areas including Law, Finance, IT, Human Resources, Customer Experience, Government Affairs, Corporate Development, Corporate HR.
Establish and manage relationships with the media (reporters, editors) and social media contributors, serving as on-the-record spokesperson for corporate issues.
Monitor and triage incoming media requests and customer-related issues and produce quarterly media reports, supervising the work of the media relations specialist.
Lead crisis communications planning, including maintaining and updating the corporate crisis plan, crisis management training, maintenance of the crisis app, coordination with business continuity and the development and implementation of an annual crisis simulation exercises for senior leadership team and related subject matter experts, & consultants.
Work closely with the AVP, Internal Communications, and Public Relations on merger, development and implementation of communications and issues management plans. Serve as corporate communications lead on integration communications and change management, working closely with Government Affairs, Internal Communications, Corporate Development and others.
Anticipate and manage issues and threats that challenge Care1st, proactively prepare for potential issues, and respond quickly to unforeseen issues, in coordination with Law Department and other internal stakeholders. Routinely maintain the Issues Management Tracker, detailing all potential reputational issues of concern to the company.
Manage cross-departmental communications strategy and alignment on key corporate issues, counseling business leaders on reputation issues and ensuring coordination of messaging and timing with divisions and departments.
Develop, disseminate and coordinate messaging on corporate-level issues or programs for use by all communications representatives in the company.
Write, edit and/or approve messaging documents including talking points, Q&A, statements/press releases, letters, alerts, on-line communications and other related communications.
Implement integrated communications process improvements to develop and execute communications strategies more effectively.
Education/Requirements:
BS/BA with 7 years of experience in communications, including a demonstrated track record of developing and executing successful public relations strategies and programs. Advanced degree a plus.
Strong interest in health care and the ability to create thoughtful, original content.
Broad understanding of all facets of communications, including marketing communications.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Team player with strong leadership qualities and in-depth experience effectively managing a group.
Spirit of innovation and willingness to define the undefined and be motivated by the mutual success of their clients and their career.
Knowledge and understanding of social media.
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite; knowledge of WordPress.
