BASIC FUNCTION:The Manager, External Communication & Community Relations is a key member of the corporate communications department leadership team. This position is responsible for developing and executing global external communication strategies and programs to build, advance and protect LyondellBasell’s reputation. This includes developing and driving an integrated stakeholder engagement program. In addition to managing issues and media relations on a global scale, this position will also be responsible for enhancing the company’s crisis communication posture and capabilities. This role is based in Houston, Texas and reports to the Director of Corporate Communications. RESPONSIBILITIES \tLeads the corporate media and site relations functions in media relations/issues management in compliance with the Media and External Communications Policy.\tServes as the company’s point of contact for media inquiries and responses. Serves as company spokesperson and coordinates crisis management communications with media with regard to corporate issues. \tManages issues/crisis communications program and situations. Identifies and manages issues that pose threat to business, successfully manages image issues to avoid crisis communications situations. Proactively prepares for issues/crisis through training advance preparation.\tIdentifies and develops strategies to advance positive media coverage of company operations in the media.\tDevelops and fosters direct relationships with key media; establishes strategic media relations with national media outlets, business media and wire services; promotes accurate and positive media coverage of LyondellBasell.\tUtilizes planning and communication skills to keep management informed of key issues; counsels management on action required, including development of statements and position papers.\tCollaborates with marketing communications to identify and manage appropriate editorial coverage in industry trade publications.\tManages public relations agencies and vendors.\tDemonstrates teamwork and communications skills in working with department team members.EDUCATION & LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS\tBachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or related field of study required\tMBA preferred; equivalent work experience may be consideredWork Experience:\t8 years of experience in media relations, issues management or related field.\tPrevious experience managing a global team strongly preferred.\tStrong preference for agency, energy/petrochemical experience.SKILLS:\tOutstanding communication skills, both oral and written\texceptional knowledge of public relations tactics and strategies\tLeadership in linking public relations activities to company strategies and goals\tAbility to speak with clarity and confidence to individuals and groups from a variety of backgrounds\tAbility to translate technical and/or complex information into messages that can be easily understood by non-company audiences\tOutstanding strategy, planning and business acumen\tAbility to drive results\tExcellent diplomatic skills with the ability to read and adapt to group dynamics\tAbility to simultaneously manage multiple projects and to interact professionally and appropriately with people at all levels inside and outside the companyLyondellBasell (NYSE: LYB) is one of the world’s largest plastics, chemical and refining companies and a member of the S&P 500.
