We are looking for an experienced Communications Director to play a key role managing communications at Vulcan, with a particular focus on technology programs, projects and issues. The ideal candidate is someone with strategic communications experience, an ability to work with senior executives; is an excellent writer and possesses strong media relations skills. The candidate must be able to work effectively across a wide range of internal teams, lead short-term and long-term projects, and who can comfortably and quickly adjust to changing priorities and situations. Working with the Senior Director for Communications, this individual is responsible for working closely with leadership to develop communications strategies that further the business’ objectives, technology agenda, and brand messaging for the broader organization and its divisions. Working closely with the social media team, this individual will assist in developing content that will be used in Vulcan/Paul Allen social graph, as well as by outside media. This is a hands-on role that requires the ability to develop and strategy AND sell in a story to a particular writer or outlet. As a key member of the Communications team, this position will work closely across Communications and the portfolio of businesses, programs, projects, and initiatives. The position is full-time and located in Seattle, Washington. RESPONSIBILITIESLead overall communications for select Vulcan programs, projects, and/or initiatives, working collaboratively with social media team and our external agencies to deliver superior results.Working with Technology executives and corporate communications leaders, design integrated communications plans and craft messages for key programs, projects, and initiatives.Develop strong relationships with media representatives while managing effective media relations and maximizing media opportunities for company representatives.Draft and edit internal and external speeches for key leaders, online content, talking points, message guidance, opinion pieces, and presentations for a wide range of topics, occasions, and audiences.Work in concert with other Corporate Communications functions and Vulcan businesses to ensure seamless communications across Vulcan, Inc.Forge relationships with the media and other influencers.Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments. Knowledge, experience, skill, and/or ability A minimum of 10 years communication experience working with and in the Technology industry.Demonstrated ability to work across a matrixed organization, including internal teams, external producers, vendors, and directors.Previous experience working in public policy, state or local government entities.Must be highly skilled in composing effective communications and strategies for projects requiring involvement and support from multiple and diverse governmental entities and officials.Previous success managing multiple projects across a wide range of genres and formats. Ability to develop a strategic plan and proven success through the implementation of communication and public relations plans and digital campaigns with clear objectives and measurements.Excellent writing skills and the ability to effectively tell the story.Digital and social media campaign experience.Strong media relations experience, particularly with trade press, business media, key bloggers, and critics.Ability to develop campaigns and events targeted to industry leaders, media, and digital influencers.Executive suite public relation advisor and counsel experience; ability to anticipate and identify potential red flag PR issues. Strong initiative and flexibility working in a fast-paced environment.Strong written and verbal communication skills. Required computer skills MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) Education/experience/certificationsBachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from accredited institution and at least 10-12 years relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
