The Manager, External Communications is responsible for leading a team that develops and implements integrated communication plans that support business objectives and effectively engages external audiences.
This position reports to the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club, Golden Oak and Adventures by **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.
Oversee the development and implementation of strategic communication plans. Ensure team members are working effectively with clients to assess the situation/need, compile and analyze research, outline an effective communication approach/strategy, develop key messages and FAQs, as well as use appropriate communication tactics and vehicles to achieve plan goals.
Act as a consultant, influencer and strategic thought partner to senior leadership and business partners to understand business/audience needs and proactively shape communication.
Create and foster essential relationships necessary for the company's long-term success, including relationships with news reporters and editors, community influencers and opinion leaders, major consumer and industry voices, industry associations and others.
Oversee the development and execution of events that effectively deliver key messages to important stakeholders (e.g., media moments, appreciation events, etc.).
Partner with the Executive Communication team to develop and implement executive engagement strategies.
Proactively identify opportunities to build and protect the business' reputation. Promote key reputation drivers among key audiences and identify/mitigate emerging issues using an integrated approach that takes into account all aspects of communications.
Serve as a member of the WDW Emergency Communication team and contribute to regular updates of the Emergency Communication Plan.
Plays a leadership role in personnel development and evaluation. Mentors effectively. Leads by example.
Minimum of 5-7 years in a professional corporate communications, public relations or government role
Previous leadership experience, leading and developing a high-performing team of professionals
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or equivalent work experience
Proven ability to develop high-quality work product in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Demonstrated strong leadership, organizational and project management skills
Strong presentation, writing/positioning and editing skills
Strong consulting skills
Proven ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Proven ability to manage budgets
Demonstrated ability generating and executing creative ideas
Willingness to travel, including internationally, and on short notice if needed
Previous experience with The Walt Disney Company
Previous experience as a leader of leaders
