The Leadership Division

of the Aspen Institute builds off its 70-year history of developing leaders across generations and geography to become more effective, values-based leaders. Today, the Division supports the life-long development of leaders through its seminar offerings, the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN), and Weave: The Social Fabric Project.

Basic Function

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is a full-time position that will work collaboratively with Leadership Division staff, AGLN Fellowship programs Executive Leadership Seminars and Weave: The Social Fabric Project teams to produce strategic communications outputs, strengthen organizational efficiency, and improve workflow processes to keep up with the growing needs of the Leadership Division of the Aspen Institute. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will directly support and report to the Marketing and Communications Manager and Digital Producer, Leadership Division. The Coordinator will also assist others on the Marketing and Communications team and support the department’s administration.

Critical thinking, creativity, and multimedia skills are crucial in this role. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will help identify new opportunities for the Leadership Division and its programs to communicate its messages effectively and engage program participants, sponsors, and external audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Content Production

Support Digital Media Producer with creating graphics, video content, audio stories, and email marketing as well as copywriting and social media engagement (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and other special projects with a lens towards diversity, equity, and inclusion for Leadership Division and its programs especially the Aspen Global Leadership Network, Action Forum, Executive Leadership Seminars and Weave: The Social Fabric Project

Support Digital Media Producer with the production of custom marketing and communications collateral (print and digital) for Leadership Division and its programs as needed

Maintain content editorial calendar for Leadership Division programs including website content, social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn), YouTube channel, and e-blasts, especially AGLN, Action Forum, and Executive Seminars

Assist in production of e-mail marketing and communications initiatives coordinating across Leadership Division Programs

Assist with interviews with leading changemakers, entrepreneurs, and experts for digital and print content

Assist in stewarding Leadership Division program brands by maintaining brand assets (logos, style guides, etc.) and content library

Strategic Communications Support

Assist in brainstorming and implementing communication strategies for Leadership Division programs

Generate engagement analytics reports on social media channels, website, and emails and in coordination with the Marketing and Communications team make recommendations and provide insights to Leadership Division programs

Aspen Global Leadership Network and Resnick Aspen Action Forum Communications and Marketing

Assist in the production of e-mail communications and marketing initiatives (including monthly bulletin, custom eblasts, registration campaigns etc.)

Assist Digital Media Producer in optimizing the website by creating new web pages and web content and ensuring content is updated and accurate

Monitor and engage on AGLN and Resnick Aspen Action Forum social media channels

Compile website and email analytics for inbound community engagement and outward communication opportunities

Media Asset Management

Aggregate and catalog media assets from Leadership Division events in the media library using for use in marketing and communication materials

Archive and systematize records of events, interviews, and audio transcripts for use in marketing and communication materials and media content

Provide media assets for various communications initiatives as needed by Leadership Division and its programs, Aspen Institute central communications team and other partners

Integrate a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens in all essential duties and work responsibilities

Department Admin

Process expenses and invoices for Marketing and Communications Department

Maintain Marketing and Communications team folders in Google Drive

Assist in scheduling for Marketing and Communications team

Manage the Leadership Division’s media assets

Required Knowledge, Education and Experience:

Experience in producing a range of digital and print collateral including website content, social media graphics, videos, e-newsletters, booklets, one-pagers, PowerPoint decks, etc.

Working knowledge of popular design and video editing tools; experience with Canva, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premier Pro

Proficiency interpreting and acting upon digital analytics

Outstanding writing skills with a focus on detail and accuracy

Strong organizational skills with ability to complete projects and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Ability to work independently and well with a diverse group of people throughout the organization

Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines

Flexible, positive, collaborative, action-oriented attitude

Strong interest in the work and mission of the Aspen Institute and the ability to represent the organization externally.

Excellent cultural competence and experience working directly with constituents from diverse racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and geographic backgrounds.

Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, political science, film, graphic design or related area (preferred), with 1-3 years of related experience

Level of Authority:

non-budgetary / non-supervisory

The Institute has implemented a mandatory COVID vaccination policy for all employees who will work at one of our physical locations, attend any of our in-person events or travel on behalf of the Institute. Staff unable to be vaccinated may request an exemption under certain circumstances.
