Job Purpose 

The Senior Account Executive plays a lead role on his/her accounts. In addition to supporting the Account Manager in the delivery of PR Plans, individuals are expected to demonstrate superior media relations skills, contribute to content development, manage multiple projects and mentor junior staff members. Senior Account Executives are encouraged to be entrepreneurial in their work, building their network with media and required to support new business activity where appropriate.

This position resides within Aspectus’ financial services practice. While not required, a working knowledge of the financial services sector (capital markets & wealth managment) and the media outlets that covers it, is a key asset to bring to the role.

Account Management Responsibilities  

  • Possess detailed understanding of your client’s business, industry, related verticals and competitors
  • Thoroughly understand financial market developments and regulations and their impact on your clients
  • Working with the Account Manager and AVP to help with the implementation of PR strategy and lead the team on pre-determined aspects of client campaigns
  • Produce high-quality written content and demonstrate proficiency in all areas of writing – reporting, press releases, media pitches, blogs, briefing documents, etc.
  • Actively engage with clients on a daily basis and effectively inspire their confidence and trust by developing solid relationships and producing strong results
  • Ensure all work is completed in a timely manner to the highest possible standard
  • Oversee junior staff to track features, awards, events, and speaking opportunities for clients, as outlined within the PR plan

Media Relations Responsibilities

  • Serve the media to the highest professional standards, nurturing strong relationships with journalists, and securing coverage for clients
  • Make time to stay on top of industry news and developments, reading all relevant publications and resources to spot and create opportunities for clients  
  • Proactively identify coverage opportunities for clients in top trade press, Tier 1 publications, newswires, television and radio
  • Expand coverage abilities to include regulatory and breaking news opportunities
  • Thoroughly vet, prep and facilitate all interview opportunities including: preparing clients for interviews through briefing documents, talking points and prep calls; Facilitate the interview and conduct appropriate follow up.
  • Demonstrate creative thinking when developing pitches and content for clients
  • Take an avid interest in, and keep up-to-date with all relevant media – including key contacts, titles, audience and circulation
  • Strengthen existing relationships and cultivate new relationships throughout the year
  • Conduct at least 10 in-person, non-client meetings with the press per year
  • Keep abreast of current affairs to ensure client media pitches and storylines are topical and relevant in a wider context

Aspectus Career Development and Culture

  • Be an active Aspectus brand ambassador and member of the Aspectus team
  • Regularly contribute to the Aspectus blog and social media accounts
  • Work collaboratively with Aspectus’ international affiliates in London
  • Contribute to Aspectus’ ongoing learning culture through active participation in internal knowledge sessions and idea meetings

Business Development Responsibilities

  • Heavy involvement in new business presentation research and development
  • Attend new business pitches as required

Professional Background

  • 3 years of experience, prior agency experience required
  • B.S. in Public Relations, Communications or related field
  • Strong interest in financial services, professional services, technology and/or B2B communications
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite (Office, Powerpoint, etc), Gorkana, Factiva, etc.

Skill Requirements

  • An abundance of proactivity, commitment and initiative

  • Team player mindset and willingness to work collaboratively
  • A desire to learn and a thirst for knowledge of the financial services and tech industries
  • A passion for the communications industry, especially enthusiasm for media relations and pitching to journalists
  • News junkie with interest in current affairs in our clients’ markets, and ability to come up with compelling story ideas
  • Extreme attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in B2B public relations and/or other related communications-focused field. Prior agency experience required.
