Garland Environmental Waste Services
Responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Neighborhood Traffic Control Program to ensure Garland\u2019s residents have safe neighborhood streets on which to drive and safe school routes for walking school children. Also, responsible for providing information and education to citizens and other entities regarding street safety.
Essential Job Functions
Manage and coordinate School Crossing Guard program including hiring, training and managing School Crossing Guards and Supervisors.
Serve as liaison with local schools and school districts. Work through traffic and pedestrian issues with the school district personnel.
Oversee and implement the Neighborhood Traffic Control Policy and program.
Act as first point of contact for citizen inquiries for school and neighborhood traffic safety. Collaborate with other city departments and outside agencies to resolve complaints and issues.
Make presentations to and lead discussions with Crime Watch groups, neighborhood groups, PTA and other groups to inform and educate citizens and children about transportation department operations and traffic safety issues.
Perform field observation, measurements, and markings for traffic devices and signage.
Prepare policy reports and related material for review by the City Council.
Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills
Associate\u2019s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field of study
5 \u2013 7 years experience in transportation operations, customer service, educational programming or related area
2 \u2013 3 years supervisory experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Skill in conflict resolution and customer service
Comprehensive knowledge of transportation operations
Comprehensive knowledge of City ordinances, policies and procedures
Excellent organizational skills
Skills in written and oral communication, including handling requests and complaints from citizens
Skills in Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, Outlook and Word
Ability to collect and analyze traffic data
Licenses & Certifications Valid Class C Texas driver's license
Physical Tasks & Working ConditionsThe incumbent works in various environments; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.

The Recycling Center, Transfer Station, and Hinton Landfill will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1. Environmental Waste Services' offices will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 26. Phase 6 Cart Delivery Schedule Yellow Week: Jan. 23 – 26 Blue Week: Jan. 30 – Feb. 2 Once your blue cart is delivered you may keep your red bin. If you would like to recycle your red bin place it in the blue container or drop it off at Garland’s Recycling Center, located at 1426 Commerce St. Please call 972-205-3500 or email EWS@GarlandTX.gov if you have any questions. Don't Go Tarpless! The operator of any vehicle arriving at the Hinton Landfill, wood recycling center, or Garland's transfer station which does not have a suitable cover placed over the vehicle's load, shall pay a surcharge of $20 per City of Garland Code of Ordinances, Chapter 52, Article II, Sec. 52.47(F). The transfer station and landfill sell tarps for $10 each, but covering and securing your load from the beginning of your trip will be more effective at preventing litter.
