Communications Coordinator
Full-time, Hourly
Position Summary
Key member of the Marketing Team responsible for supporting the Communications Team. This position assists with social media content, public relations and traditional institutional communications. Level at hire dependent on qualifications and experience.
Essential Functions (including but not limited to):
Assist Communications Director with PR tactics that translate into editorial results and help with list building and drafting pitches.
Manage photo, video and b-roll digital library and creative archives. Create index of existing materials and recommend creative needs.
Support Director of Communications with writing, editing and creating copy for HR, Development, VP of Conservation, VP of Education and CEO.
Liaison with internal park operation teams to ensure consistency in verbiage throughout consumer facing materials including presentations, theming and signage.
Assist with research, writing, proofreading and development of various marketing materials which includes: Zoo publications, e-newsletters, show schedules, invitations, collateral, etc..
Assist Marketing/PR staff with escorting clients, media and photographers on premises.
Work with Digital Marketing Specialist to monitor Zoo’s website content for accuracy and updates.
Work with Digital Marketing Specialist to create compelling blogs, posts, videos and other content for social media.
Answer guest comments/questions on social media platforms.
Produce monthly communication impact reports and weekly social media recaps.
Assist Marketing Team with inter-department communication.
Assist with management of communication agencies to ensure that all materials deliver a consistent brand message, on time, on target and on budget.
Administers the communications budget to ensure that team is within budget and all invoices are submitted to unit budget manager.
Monitor trends, researches consumer markets and competitors’ activities to identify opportunities and issues.
Continuously analyzes the competitive environment and consumer trends and recommends offensive strategies.
Actively participates in meetings, special events, fundraisers and other Marketing/PR/Development functions.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in public relations, advertising or marketing.
One to three years proven communications experience.
Understanding of product launches, brand storytelling, media and influencer relations strategies.
Understanding of digital/new media marketing strategies.
Expert in persuasive writing and verbal communication, AP Style preferred.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Ability to develop communication strategies and effectively communicate recommendations to executive leadership.
Up-to-date with latest trends and marketing best practices.
Excellent understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TripAdvisor).
Must be proficient (intermediate to advanced) with Microsoft Office.
Familiarity with latest photo/video apps to edit content in trendy and fresh manner.
Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities of competing urgency and importance.
Other Requirements:
Conduct all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold).
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts including holidays and weekends.
Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking.
