The Director of Communications and Marketing at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law (LAW) is responsible for developing and executing all internal and external communications, marketing materials, and branding for the institution. This includes writing, designing and overseeing production of a broad range of print and electronic communication materials, while serving as the primary media contact for the school. By developing well-written and timely publications, news releases and other public relations materials, the Director of Marketing and Communication assists with the overall efforts of the school to increase its visibility, successful student recruitment, and strong alumni and community relations, and to enhance the overall image and branding of the school.
This includes writing copy, taking photos, and creating graphics and collaborating with staff and outside vendors for production of a broad range of print and electronic communication materials, while serving as the primary media contact for the school. By developing well-written and timely publications, news releases and other public relations materials, assisting with the overall efforts of the school to increase its visibility, help with student recruitment, enhance the overall image and branding of the school, and foster strong alumni, community and donor relations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development, design and production of LAW internal and external communications including but not limited to publications, news releases, website graphics and text, brochures, emails, electronic newsletters, annual reports, marketing and recruitment materials. Additional tasks may be assigned by the Dean to accomplish initiatives of the marketing and communication department.
Oversee the development of promotional in-house materials.
Develop and maintain productive relationships with members of the local, regional and national media, including legal industry-specific media to result in favorable coverage of the institution.
Coordinate and work with staff and outside vendors, including graphic designers, printers, photographers and videographers to produce effective LAW publications and website materials.
Provide creative leadership for design, development and production of print and electronic media.
Develop and execute marketing and communication strategies and related activities in support of LAW programs and events.
Assist with LAW special event planning as needed.
Oversee the development of public relations efforts including press releases, online news announcements, fact sheets, talking points, articles and features, and other various items as needed.
Develop and maintain LAW identity through branding a unified look for the design and production of all print and online marketing and communication materials in keeping with the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Style Guide and LAW Marketing and Communications Guide.
Maintain an effective and leading social media presence.
Organize marketing and communication efforts at LAW to maintain high quality standards and consistency of style, identity, and theme.
Work with various departments within LAW to coordinate their marketing and communication needs and handles all marketing efforts.
Works closely with the Admissions Office as an ex-officio member of the Admissions Committee to maintain consistent, branded communications with prospective and accepted students including brochures, letters, email campaigns, gifts and supplies, and web and social media campaigns.
Regularly update content for the LAW website (text, video, graphics) while collaborating with campus Web Administrator on overall design.
Identifies and writes articles/content for the website and alumni/donor relations material.
Maintain organized and accurate records of annual marketing-communication plan, including resources and costs as applicable.
Develop a process for faculty, staff and students to easily communicate their activities for promotion through the appropriate venues (website, newsletter, press releases, etc.).
Takes photos and coordinates professional photography and videography to support marketing efforts.
Pitch institutional news items and story ideas to the main campus communication office for consideration.
Submit a monthly report for communication and marketing activities/projects.
Represent the law school throughout the Raleigh community at various events and service opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing or other related field.
Any combination of education and experience in marketing and communication that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position.
Prior experience in higher education is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Possess a high level of writing, editing and general communication skills and effective public relations practices.
Extensive knowledge of AP Style is required.
Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
Knowledge of how to prepare program proposals and academic evaluative reports.
Maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations
Ability to collaborate and interact with legal industry professionals.
Ability to organize, direct, prioritizes, and delegate work appropriately.
Excellent analytical skills necessary for preparing financial, legal, and administrative tasks.
Knowledge of Microsoft Work, Outlook, Excel, and Powerpoint as well as the internet, web and data management systems and Adobe Creative Suite.
Demonstrate tact, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, high level university official, and the public.
Self-starter/self-motivated and work with minimum supervision.
Ability to work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
Exercise independent and appropriate judgment in complex and new situations.
Manage multiple, concurrent projects, while meeting strict deadlines.

Complexity of duties will be commensurate with level of experience.
Types of Contacts:
This position is appointed by and reports to the Assistant Dean of External Relations. This individual will work with the law students, administrators, faculty, external stake holders, and external partners.
This individual will provide guidance and instruction as directed by their immediate supervisor.
Requires attendance at events within as well as outside of the University setting.
The position requires a flexible work schedule with frequent travel, and evening and weekend meetings and event hours.
Professional appearance is required and the ability to interact with personnel at all organizational levels.
