Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Communications & Public Affairs will guide the strategy for all communications, public relations messages, public affairs and collateral to consistently articulate Family Endeavors' mission. The Director of Communications is responsible for planning, development and implementation of all of FE's marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public affairs activities, both external and internal. Oversees development and implementation of support materials and services in the area of marketing, communications and public relations. Coordinates at the strategic and tactical levels with CEO & COO along with Organization leadership team. Works with key stakeholders to advance Family Endeavors mission.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with the CEO and COO to develop communications strategies that will broaden programmatic reach and deepen impactEnsure Family Endeavors “core” messages are communicated consistentlyIdentify significant media and public policy issues that can be leveraged to support Family Endeavors’ work, and create and implement plans to exploit themOversee organizational response to inquiries about Family EndeavorsDevelop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across the network's audiences in collaboration with the Family Endeavors team and constituentsManage creative team in the production and creation of outward facing content including but not limited to:The generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminatePuts communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activitiesManage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and Family Endeavors’ websiteMentor and lead a team member responsible for Family Endeavors' website administration and coordinationEnsure webpage maintenance—ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularlyManage development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, and Family Endeavors’ websiteTrack and measure the level of engagement within network of constituents over timeManage all media contactsDevelop relationships with key constituents across all marketing FE servesOversee activities and events that create organization awarenessESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Leadership: Experience in planning, leading, and managing creative communication projects and working in ways that haven’t been tried before. Ability to participate on a leadership team to advance the organization’s broader goals and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to execute as needed. Experience coordinating with peers across functional teams to achieve desired outcomes. Ability to work independently to organize and prioritize multiple projects.Communications: Proven success at leading strategic internal and external communications efforts through the development of communications plans, message development, media efforts (including new and social media), public relations, marketing, and targeted distribution strategies. Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, reader-friendly materials. Experience identifying and crafting stories that engage and compel an audience. Superior writing and proofreading/editing skills are critical. Knowledge of video production.Tools and Resource Development: Expertise overseeing the production of multimedia resources to ensure relevance to target audiences.Events: Experience designing and executing events with a focus on culture, creativity, and experiential learning.Collaboration: Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives. Comfort in an informal, entrepreneurial environment that values innovation, risk, and results.Relationship Building: Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally.Management Experience: Excellent people skills with demonstrated experience managing others and working with a dynamic team internally and externally. Able to multi-task; comfortable working in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions.Project Management: Ability to implement project management methodology to advance multiple endeavors simultaneously, providing project participants and suppliers with clarity related to vision, deliverables, and timelines. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field and/or relevant job experience is required, an advanced degree is preferred EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior management role including experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature, and other print publications and directoriesDemonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communications, media relations, and marketing program to advance an organization's mission and goalsCreative and thoughtful on how new media technologies can be utilizedInnovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and outputExperience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications specialistsExcellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skillsSelf-reliant, good problem solver, results orientedAbility to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needsEnergetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance, and administration initiativesLICENSES: Drivers License with clear record.VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must be available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required to meet business needs. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.Understanding of the government contracting arena. Proven, measurable, and successful experience into the largest US Federal and Civilian Agencies. Established network of government contacts at Federal agencies. Understanding of the FARs, government contracting process, and contract vehicles (GSA, GWACs, BPAs, etc.). Proven, measurable, and successful experience in growing revenue within an existing account.Ability to develop and manage a high volume of opportunities. Must be motivated, dedicated and a self-starter and requires minimum supervision. Strong analytical, negotiation and creative problem solving skills. Must have a verifiable history of meeting or exceeding sales quotas. Verifiable track record of winning work at both the task order and contract level. Strong employment tenure in Business Development positions. Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. High-level analytical and problem-solving skills and strategic-thinking capacity. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: COMMUNICATION: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral or written means. Ability to communicate appropriately with all levels of individuals. Ability to make oral presentations and write detailed grant proposals. Ability to present a professional and positive demeanor to staff, funders, officials and the general public.ANALYTICAL: Synthesizes complex or diverse information, collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement date, designs work flows and procedures.PROBLEM SOLVING: Identifies and resolved problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.COMPOSURE: Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control in the midst of difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to represent the agency and respond professionally in all situations.COMPUTER: Proficient knowledge of current MSOffice products and donor database management software. Strong internet research skills. 45 WPM, 95% accuracy.DECISION MAKING: Ability to think analytically, evaluate the impact of decisions and resolve problems. Ability to set work priorities and to evaluate and create solutions to work related problems. Ability to think analytically and conceptually on a long term basis.FINANCIAL: Strong math skills. Ability to develop and manage a budget and operate within its’ parameters.MANAGEMENT: Knowledge of business and management practices involved in strategic planning, resource allocation and leadership. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Works with a bias towards action. Ability to evaluate effectiveness of marketing initiatives.NEGOTIATION: Ability to persuade and influence others to reach optimum public relation and financial return.
