Having Diversity and Inclusion as part of our core values and beliefs, we’re proud to foster an environment where every Extreme employee can thrive because of their differences, not despite them.We are seeking a Director of External Communications.  We are looking for someone who has successfully driven strategic enterprise-level communications initiatives through optimization of traditional media and digital channels, including social media, to build and strengthen the company’s presence. The Director of External Communications will have strong knowledge of enterprise tech trends and the media and influencers driving the conversation, and is responsible for planning, coordinating, executing and reporting regarding the company’s global PR and social media activities in coordination with our US and EMEA PR and social media leaders.. This constant multi-tasker will drive cross-functional and highly visible initiatives with a focus on executive visibility, thought leadership, brand awareness and increasing earned features & mentions in Tier 1 media outlets. The position reports into the VP of Corporate Communications and works closely with executive leadership across the company.  Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Develop and execute cohesive and proactive corporate communications, public relations, and social media strategy to raise visibility of the company, its products and key leadership, working closely with product marketing, investor relations, CSR and D&I teams, as well as the executive teamAnticipate, draft and manage review process for all news announcements and external communications, managing consistency of messages and disclosure; Manage communication governance (review and approval) process that ensures message buy-in from related parties and the executive team. Deliver quarterly and annual reporting in coordination with global PR and social media teamsWork with US and EMEA PR leads on media interactions, ensuring spokespeople are carefully prepared and equipped with appropriate messaging and understanding of disclosure strategyPartner with VP of Corporate Communications to update and refresh corporate messaging; Regularly revisit and, as necessary, refine key messages and corporate presentations to ensure accuracy and reflect corporate messagingStrategize, plan and execute story ideas, campaigns and projects, including development of press releases, bylines, blogs and other contributed contentOversee and work closely with US and EMEA PR leads and agencies on our media relations strategy to continuously secure strategic placements in print, broadcast, and online media. Provide clear and firm direction to agencies and internal partners for enterprise messaging, channel mix selection, content development and tactical deliveryManage and drive vertical PR programs in retail, healthcare, state and local government, education, sports & entertainment. Support trade, channel and business media relations programsManage and drive executive visibility programs that support corporate narrativeSupport quarterly earnings processExpertise in developing and managing paid and organic social media strategies to increase viewership of earned media and thought leadership and grow following; Experience driving employee social engagement and social selling preferred.Plan, staff, budget, manage expense priorities, and recommend and implement changes to the external communications program as neededOther duties as assignedRequirements This role is based in our Salem, NH officeMinimum 15 years of experience in B2B marketing and public relations (agency and in-house) working for a global, public companies. Experience in networking, cloud, telecom and/or security industries preferredBachelor’s degree in a related fieldHigh degree of discretion working with confidential information Proven track record of building and effectively implementing successful corporate brand initiatives including through social media channelsSkilled in communicating complex information to a variety of audiences; demonstrated ability to break down complex ideas and concepts in the networking industry in easy-to-understand waysExperience managing global agency and vendor relationshipsExperience at expertly managing sensitive situations, crisis communications and issues impacting reputationExcellent business judgment; always considers the relevance/impact of each decision on the business; budget management and organization skills essentialStrong executive presence and outstanding interpersonal skills; ability to successfully influence without authority and effectively work across functions and personalitiesSuperior written, presentation, creative and meeting facilitation skillsExcellent project management abilities, follow-through, attention to detail and high sense of urgencyFlexible and able to successfully navigate ambiguity and succeed in a rapidly changing, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple prioritiesAbility to work well under pressure and enjoys a fast-paced, often unpredictable environmentAbility to travel on occasionExtreme Networks, Inc.
