SUMMARY:Hachette Books (a division of Hachette Book Group) is seeking a Publicity Assistant to work closely with the Associate Publisher and Director of Publicity in an active capacity within a creative and dynamic publishing program. This is a tremendous and unique opportunity to work on a small, highly focused team, learn all aspects of the book publishing process, contribute to the active branding of the imprint, and be a part of publicizing a list of exciting and diverse books and authors.The candidate must have solid writing skills, a natural ability to multi-task and think on one’s feet, be flexible, and be a creative problem-solver. The Hachette Books list is a diverse range of provocative and conversation-starting books that each require individualized, thoughtful, and creative campaigns and the Publicity Assistant will touch elements of nearly every book the imprint publishes. Excellent phone and computer skills are expected and a love of books is important. An ideal candidate is thinking about the future of reading and how social media and other nontraditional channels can be utilized to best market books and authors to the world. There will be direct author interaction, communication with the media, potential for travel to author events, an opportunity to provide support at all local events and at some national media appearances, and to become part of various Hachette Book Group initiatives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Support Associate Publisher on all publishing and departmental responsibilitiesSupport Publicity Director on a wide array of books by high-profile authors: Non-fiction (narrative, politics, social justice, history, memoir, etc), Fiction, Poetry, and more.Create press materials including press releases, pitch letters, Q&A's and biosDevelop and maintain relationships with broadcast, print and online media to secure reviews and featuresCoordinate and execute media campaigns, implement review copy mailings, manage media lists and tour schedules.Cultivate and maintain author relationshipsWork closely with other departments - editorial, marketing, sales, etc.General administrative duties KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:Minimum of 1 year of publishing experience preferred (internships ok) or other relevant work experienceExcellent written and oral communication skillsAttention to detail and superb organizational skillsAble to multi-task, determine priorities, and remain cool under pressureProficient in Microsoft OfficeKnowledge of Cision Media database a plus
