The Executive Editor also works collaboratively and provides editorial leadership to other units within External Affairs whose work contributes to the newsroom such as our video teams, photographers, social media specialists, data analysts, SEO specialists, magazine designers, and our interactive design group, which provides the development and design capability to make the most of content distributed through our digital platforms. This person must translate and transmit the internal needs of the group so that those with the ability to provide solutions will do so.

Must understand how to provide professional development and creative opportunities that motivate people, create career paths, and promote job satisfaction.

Assign and oversee creative assignments, assess the quality of the resulting work, and provide advice, support, and direction when appropriate. The ability to mentor, teach, and creatively empower the staff is a requisite and central part of the job.

Support staff as they stretch outside their silo and acquire a more holistic set of creative skills or pursue new, untested approaches.

The EE will set the tone for the newsroom environment, ensuring that it is open, mutually supportive, empowering, and generous in its recognition of superior work and the people responsible for it. The EE is also required to have a successful track record in building creative teams around individuals and their specific strengths and skill sets.
