As head of Fred Hutch’s Marketing Team, the Senior Director, Integrated Marketing is tasked with driving brand strategy and development of measurable multi-channel marketing plans to build awareness, engagement and advocacy on a local and national level. This includes ensuring that all marketing activities accrue to higher-level department and organizational goals, and championing the brand throughout the organization and across all stakeholder touchpoints.

Reporting to the Vice President of Communications & Marketing, you will be responsible for brand positioning based on audience insights, and development and execution of annual marketing plans informed by market research. The role also includes oversight of advertising strategy and execution to drive brand awareness and fundraising, sponsorship strategy and management, and marketing support for development and community events. You will run our creative agency relationships and work closely with Philanthropy, Business Development and Government Affairs, as well as our Web/Design/UX, Communications and Content teams to plan and execute integrated campaigns. You should have demonstrated experience in leading large brands with diverse audiences, and championing creative marketing initiatives that fulfill brand promise, create unique brand experiences and drive marketing ROI.



Help develop and implement brand vision, strategy and goals for marketing programs, including unique value proposition and positioning strategy for varied audiences; ensure strategy is consistently communicated, understood and implemented across organization.

In collaboration with VP of Communications & Marketing and heads of Communications and Content, develop and implement messaging architecture encompassing Center’s mission and vision to serve as foundation for all internal and external communications and marketing initiatives.

Maintain consistent brand standards and foster a common understanding of brand vision throughout the organization.

Design, implement and optimize multi-channel programs for building brand awareness, engagement and advocacy. Identify emerging and future opportunities to drive growth.

Collaborate effectively with Communications & Marketing colleagues and internal stakeholders in Philanthropy, Government & Community Relations and Business Development to deliver fully integrated campaigns across paid, earned, owned and shared channels in support of department and organizational goals.

Manage external creative and paid media agencies in development and execution of brand and fundraising campaigns across broadcast, print, out of home and digital channels; oversee contracts and seek opportunities for Center-wide savings and efficiencies; monitor progress to ensure deliverables are being met within budget.

Working with analytics manager, develop brand health and other marketing metrics, and employ tracking tools and benchmarking to measure success; conduct regular post-campaign reviews leading to lessons learned and standardized methodologies that can be applied to future campaigns.

Employ qualitative and quantitative market research to inform evolving brand strategy, positioning and integrated marketing efforts.

Participate in planning and ensure appropriate marketing support for signature fundraising and community events that drive brand awareness, engagement and advocacy.

Establish and oversee Center-wide strategy for strategic sponsorships and partnerships that support brand and organizational goals and deliver strong marketing ROI; identify potential new brand partnership and sponsorship opportunities, negotiate terms, and oversee deployment of partnership assets and measurement of partnership value.

Build, manage and mentor a high-performing team of marketers to meet evolving organizational needs and execute marketing strategy.

Manage and track marketing budget and expenditures, ensuring effective budget utilization; work with Finance and Senior Business Director on budget planning and forecasting, and business cases for incremental marketing investment.

Relentlessly scan professional landscape and sources of marketing insight for trends and best practices to improve brand engagement and marketing ROI.


Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred.

Minimum of 15 years of experience in consumer or cause marketing with increasing levels of responsibility/oversight. Healthcare, research and/or non-profit experience a plus.

Experience growing a national brand required, including experiences in product marketing, brand advertising, brand architecture, digital marketing and/or direct marketing.

Experience partnering with development teams in planning and managing communications for fundraising campaigns highly desirable.

Minimum of 10 years of management experience, with proven success developing teams of marketers, including establishing performance metrics and encouraging career growth, continuous learning and best practices.


Persuasive presenter with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Sophisticated understanding of online and offline marketing techniques and principles, including digital/print communications, social media, earned media, SEO, SEM, advertising, email marketing and content marketing.

Deep knowledge of traditional, broadcast and digital advertising production; ability to gain best return on production investments.

Demonstrated ability to simplify complex information (science, research, technology) into compelling messages for a variety of audiences.

Proven experience using social media and content marketing to build brand engagement.

Conversant in digital marketing systems, platforms and tools for optimal brand engagement and measurement.
