Responsibilities The Director, Communications, in support of the Vice President, will work in conjunction with the Communications Departments’ various PR groups – for the Knicks, Rangers, Entertainment, Productions, Sports Business and Sports Properties -- on the development of strategic communications plans that build and protect MSG’s image. In direct relationship with the Vice President, this position will develop strategic recommendations on proactive content/messaging, as well as how the Company responds to issues (either negative or misinformation), with specific direction on the Company’s target audiences, what social platforms work best, third-party involvement (influencers, etc.), and determine the need for other tools (paid, etc.). In support of VP: Working with Public Relations contacts –for the Knicks, Rangers, Entertainment, Productions, Sports Business and Sports Properties – to develop, and over time refine, the tools to monitor online conversations and sentiment about the company (excluding guest issues)
During a larger crisis, ensure ongoing monitoring and the use of findings to help develop an aggressive response plan
Coordinates with appropriate parties across the company
Helps to develop support materials required -- briefing memos, schedules/agendas, backgrounders/bios, etc.
For both proactive and reactive strategies, providing guidance on target audiences, what social platforms work best, third-party involvement (MSG friends, influencers, etc.), and the use of other tools (paid, etc.)
Following the shifts in platform functionality to ensure strategies succeed; ensure programs adapt to ongoing social media platform innovations.
Develops and manages relationships and interaction with relevant reporters from consumer and trade media to promote appropriate media communications and exposure for the company.
Represents the vice president at meetings and events relating to required announcements as needed.
Helps to maintain the company’s external corporate Web site and other corporate materials (boilerplate, bios, etc.) to ensure that information is accurate, up-to-date and consistent with current messaging.
Assist with oversight of public relations-department wide clips efforts, to ensure comprehensive monitoring, accuracy in coverage and prompt delivery.
Oversees corporate communications vendors.

Seven (7) years of public relations and media experience
Experience across various media entities and with public entities
Established history of relevant media relations experience
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of social media software such as Prime and Crimson a plus
Education Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
