Job Summary:
The Senior Director, Corporate Communications is responsible for leading efforts to promote and protect Tyson Foods’ reputation, including by effectively working with our government affairs and regulatory policy teams to help leverage the opportunity and manage the issues the company faces related to public policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting Structure
This Springdale, Arkansas, based role reports directly to the VP, Global Corporate Communications
Leads a team that includes global media relations, financial communications, crisis and issues management, consumer brand communications and marketing support, local, community-based communications.
Collaborates closely with members of the government affairs, regulatory policy, IR, legal and sustainability teams.
Purpose & Business Impact
Leads efforts to communicate the Tyson corporate narrative to key external stakeholders, including media, inside-the-beltway and other policy and opinion leaders.
Uses insight and experience to inform media and issues strategy.
Leads the communications of announcements and material developments externally.
Leads and develops the media relations team to be/remain best in class across all roles and functions.
Core Responsibilities
Sets and leads national, local, trade, consumer, and other media strategy. Leads execution of the same.
Sets holistic communication strategy for issues involving state or federal policy: new regulations, congressional inquiries, or hearings, etc.
Ensures accuracy in reporting on Tyson Foods.
In partnership with communications colleagues, effectively manages issues and crises, including by working to mitigate negative coverage.
Builds, maintains, and strengthens relationships with universe of media stakeholders.
Help prepare and protect the organization for media reaction and response to any given scenarios, including but not limited to issues and breaking crises.
Grow and develop the media team.
Help lead the entire communications function.
Day-to-Day Supporting Activities
Set media strategy for a variety of issues and announcements, including issues related to federal public policy.
Ensure Tyson Foods stays on top of the news, is anticipating media and other reaction and is prepared for the same.
Day-to-day proactive and reactive interaction with news media.
Proactively look for ways to/drive coverage that supports Tyson Foods’ priorities, brand and narrative.
Provide counsel to IR, legal and others on financial communications matters.
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including legal, to ensure accurate, fact-based communications and reporting.
Support customer and business unit teams to promote business narratives in pursuit of the 3Ws.
Development/review of key messaging; anticipation of likely questions and creations of proposed responses.
Ensure the media relations team executes with excellence.

Requirements:
Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience: At least 15 years of communication, media, or public relations experience. Deep knowledge of and experience in issues management and crisis mitigation. Must have the ability to set, develop and execute communications strategy while leading teams in a matrixed organization. Also have prior experience of developing and providing sound, experienced counsel to the most senior levels of the organization.
Communication Skills: Exceptional writing skills with the ability to develop and edit news releases, talking points, Q&A lists, social media posts.
Special Skills: Organizational and collaboration skills are essential; so is the ability to manage projects with tight deadlines. Ability to multi-tasking and be agile are key ingredients for success. You should have a wide range of relationships with media, including top tier and trade. Experience cultivating and building relationships with media a must.
Supervisory: Strong track record leading and developing skillsets of teams.
Travel: 10 to 12 domestic trips per year.
