About BASF and JDC:
is a nonprofit organization and the oldest voluntary bar association in California. Today, over 7,400 San Francisco lawyers are members of BASF, which prides itself as being one of the most active and innovative local bar associations. Our offices are located in the Financial District. In addition to professional development and networking benefits to its members, BASF provides a variety of legal services to San Francisco residents including a Lawyer Referral and Information Service and an Alternative Dispute Resolution service.
BASF also supports the work of the Justice and Diversity Center which is the largest provider of legal services to San Franciscans. Each year more than 1,900 volunteer attorneys, interpreters, law students and college students work with JDC staff to serve nearly 8,500 indigent clients. JDC’s holistic advocacy approach seeks to address the social service needs of clients in addition to their legal needs.
About the Job:
BASF produces approximately 200 educational programs per year, a large portion of which are hour-long lunch time educational programs held onsite in BASF’s conference center. Many of these events are recorded and made available as part of an online education service. BASF also produces a series of networking receptions, an awards banquet, several day-long conferences and a number of fundraising events including a bike-a-thon and golf tournament.
The Senior Events Coordinator will lead a team of two people including an event marketing coordinator and an event registration coordinator. He/She is responsible for successfully producing these events by sourcing and booking venues; managing event budgets in collaboration with various program managers; arranging food, entertainment and equipment as necessary; providing onsite event management, providing supporting promotional and marketing materials and activities; and providing excellent customer service to internal program managers and external event attendees. This is a hands-on position and will require active involvement in the planning process and executing a successful event in addition to leading the events team.
The successful candidate will have the following:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and expertise sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position
Minimum two years’ experience in event planning/coordination
Minimum two years of experience leading a team
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
Effective project management and excellent organization skills including setting and meeting deadlines
Excellent interpersonal skills (professional and diplomatic interactions) and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously from beginning to end, including setting and meeting deadlines
Ability to multi-task in a high volume, fast-paced environment and independently prioritize with high attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to track invoices, sponsorship and payments relating to events and programs to ensure accuracy and proper allocation
Ability to work closely and collegially with diverse members of the legal community, the public and staff
Ability to develop content for marketing tools such as signs, nametags and flyers
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, InDesign, HTML, graphic design software and general database use
