Summary of Essential Job Duties:

SOCCI remains fully committed to community outreach, engagement and partnerships to reduce cancer health disparities in Los Angeles. As a result, SOCCI is launching a robust community outreach, engagement and partnerships efforts that are part of the new Research Center for Health Equity, to conduct research and provide community outreach and engagement to reduce health disparities in Los Angeles County, in collaboration with SOCCI and Cedars-Sinai Medical Network leadership.

The Community Outreach Coordinator conducts direct outreach with identified communities and populations (e.g. LGBTQ, Hispanic Latino, Filipino, Korean and other Asian communities, immigrant population) in an effort to provide cancer education and build bonds, relationships, and partnerships. The coordinator will seek community and health leaders to help guide outreach activities and inform cultural tailoring of cancer education programs. A key goal of the coordinator will be to organize communities around initiatives that reduce cancer health disparities, and promote prevention and early detection programs.

This position, under the supervision of the Community Outreach, Engagement, and Partnerships Administrator for the Research Center for Health Equity is responsible for bringing together important cancer information, resources and evidence-based awareness programs to the community. In addition, he/she/they will be responsible for data collection when necessary and will represent the Research Center for Health Equity in community settings. He/she will also collaborate with colleagues and experts to conduct trainings in the community. This position will provide feedback to the director(s), principal investigators, clinicians and researchers, and administrators on community priorities, needs and barriers on a regular basis to help catalyze the development of research projects and needed community programs. In addition, the coordinator will promote participation in research and clinical trials for underrepresented and underserved populations.

We are seeking a dynamic, action-oriented, and culturally competent and bilingual (Korean Proficient) community outreach and programs coordination professional in this position with exceptional interpersonal, communication and data management skills.

• Developing and managing relationships with key community organizations, stakeholders, including supporting the newly established Research Center for Health

Equity

• Coordinating cancer education programs at the neighborhood-level (e.g. Korea town, East Los Angeles, South Los Angeles and other areas identified as priorities by

the SOCCI leadership or MDN leadership)

• Participating in events, conferences, health fairs and other community activities to represent Research Center for Health Equity

• Supporting regular communications activities related cancer in the community and with partners. For example, working in the social media space and creating news

stories

• Coordination of specific aspects of program planning and implementation, including adhering to timelines and achieving necessary outcomes

• Assist with all aspects of event management:

o Act as point person for event set up (securing space, transporting materials, ordering food, etc.)

o Assist in the design, production, and dissemination of collateral marketing materials (letters, brochures, and flyers)

o Invitation and guests’ communications and list management

o Facility set-up and break-down

• Regularly promote participation in research and clinical trials and provide feedback to research team on barriers to access

• Assist with various office tasks, including photocopying, preparing packets, answering phones, and filing

• Assist with data collection, analysis, and report preparation

• Drafting e-mails, documents, or letters as assigned

Qualification Requirements/Preferences:

Educational Requirements:

Preferred a Bachelors Degree in a related discipline and fluency in Korean, including reading and writing. Preferred experience in cancer education.

Experience:

• 2-3 years of grassroots community outreach experience.

• A collaborative working style

• Background in health education and community outreach

• Background in data collection (surveys, focus groups, interviews)

• Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail

• The ability to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent public relations skills

• Proficient analytical thinking and creative skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office

• Ability to develop and maintain data-bases

• Program planning and evaluation skills

• Ideal candidate is highly motivated, and has the ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced environment

• Reliable transportation is a must

• Must be willing to work evenings and weekends occasionally
